Upgrade to Win10 19H1 (1903) and get a BSoD when the system has been powered off.

I updated the shipping OS from RS4 (1803) to 19H1 (1903). Upgrade went fine. Now when I turn on the system after it had been powered off and power is not going to the system (system is behind a power switch that I turn off when not using it), I get a BSoD the first time I turn it on.

This happens when I did the inline update and when I did a clean install of Windows 10.  I installed all the drivers from HPs support site and they installed fine.  If I go back to 1803 the WHEA  error goes away. I don't want to be stuck on an old version of Windows forever so if this can't be fixed I will return the system.

This is a volunteer based venue and most of us are not employed by HP.

Ill pass it on to HP. As with every new version of Windows upgrade, there will be bugs. I see it every new release.

Im sure it will get sorted out soon. Im guessing version 1809 didnt work for you either?

I did not try 1809 as Windows Update would not push it when I checked. It may not work either. Strange that even a clean install did the same thing using HP's drivers from the support site. I tried powering off again but not cutting power to the system and I still got the BSoD.

As far as I know, other Obelisk users with that motherboard/cpu are using 1809 without issue. If yours will not, you have something very odd that I have not seen before.

I restored my 1803 backup and did an inline upgrade to 1809. That seems to boot fine without the same BSoD WHEA error as 1903.  Thaks for the suggestion to try it.  Now I wonder how long for HP to prvide an updated BIOS or drivers to support 1903.

Only way to know is to periodically check your drivers page yourself. HP wont notify of updates unless you rely on the HP Support Assistant and I dont recommend using that for the Bios!!

You want to manually download the bios and update.

If your model number is correct, OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0014 without two letters at the end, then your motherboard is SSID: 84FD.

You can always recheck the model number by using the Omen Product Number (found in the HP Support Assistant) in this Search link to verify your specs.
