@Bill_To,

Continued my research to get XMP access on my OMEN Obelisk 875-1xxx platform, but I got this sinking feeling that HP has made it impossible (as you reminisced here) to resolve this issue...

I wouldn't be surprised that the best RAM speed I am ever going to get out of my OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-1xxx build fitted with a Shire motherboard (SSID: 8509) is likely just going to be 2666 MHz.

Disappointing -but lesson learned.

To that end, I ordered some Kingston HyperX Fury 2666 MHz RAM, and going to call it good:

Greetings @NonSequitur777

I was expecting you to have a possible XMP memory upgrade option for that link.

I am fuzzy with the some of the older HP PCs.

It seems like, jogging my memory, some of the HP 25L and HP 30L PCs (can do??) XMP or DOCP using specific retail memory modules per your links to User Benchmark. This is confusing.

I'm also guessing some HP 40L and 45L PCs have BIOS memory over clocking options.

You have confirmed some (maybe all??) of the HP 875 series PCs can't do this. That is disappointing.

@Bill_To,

Being unable to access RAM XMP is indeed very disappointing, especially since access to processor overclocking is available -figure that...

Another issue is that for the life of me I can't access light/RGB control of the OMEN Obelisk's light bar (stuck at red) and front panel cooling fan (stuck at white).  Interestingly, I do have control over the front panel's OMEN diamond.  I have requested/reached out to HP's benevolent tech assistance, but up to this point in time, it's all crickets 🦗 😶...

Anyway, I have ordered a total of 4 x 8GB of Kingston HyperX Fury RAM 2666 MHz (p/n: HX426C16FB3K2/16 / HX426C16FB2K2/16), the first 2 x 8GB RAM arriving today.

This Kingston RAM's default (SPD) RAM speed is 2666 MHz, the fastest any non-HP-branded RAM can run on this OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-1xxx platform:

NonSequitur777_0-1732548815904.png

Also ordered the OMEN 30L GFX card support/holder to keep the HP-branded RTX 2080 securely fastened:

Greetings @NonSequitur777

You can do CPU overclocking on a 875-1xxx PC but cannot do XMP? That's unusual.

I also thought any BIOS overclocking on the 25L PCs and 30L PCs was not possible. One can use Ryzen Master with most AMD MBs. Sometimes, it looks like the Omen Command Center can do some overclocking.

I am at a disadvantage helping folks with overclocking on the above PCs because I have never owned any of them.

The 40L and 45L PCs seem to have BIOS RAM overclocking if the PC has a "Z" MB. Can these two products (40L and 45L) do CPU BIOS overclocking?

Very confusing. Tough to keep track of HP BIOS overclocking options on the various MBs used in the higher end gaming PCs.

Participated in this Thread. The OP had a Z690 MB and was looking for more BIOS features. I guessed the OP was looking for overclocking options.

Maybe I am providing incorrect info.

@Bill_To,

My situation is pretty much the same as @Byzey, and I quote: "I was wondering if there is a way were [sic] i can onlock [sic] more bios features on my hp 8917 motherboard since the options seem to be extremely limited."  Change "8917" with "8509" (Shire motherboard), and you'll have a match: where on Earth is the "Advanced" BIOS tab???

Dear Forum,

When it rains, sometimes it pours.

The Omen 30L GFX card holder -(p/n: M27662-001) arrived but didn't fit the HP-branded RTX 2080.  But this didn't bother me much, because at least the item as sold by the Seller was accurate and didn't cost me that much.  Will throw this part in one of my 'spare parts' drawers.

I also received the first 2x8GB Kingston HyperX Fury RAM sticks, but upon checking, it became clear that the seller sold me not the 2666 MHz RAM (p/n: HX426C16FB2K2/16), but the lower speed 2133 MHz RAM (p/n: KHX2133C14D4/8Gvariety:

NonSequitur777_1-1732585332775.png

Sigh.  I am sharing this, because this sort of BS happens from time to time when buying items via eBay -the Seller either doing this either ignorantly/erroneously (the cynic I am probably not) or, more likely, maliciously.  The latter along the line of: "most buyers probably don't check or don't bother to follow up".

Not me, though -hell no: I immediately notified the seller, and I want my money back.

Ordered another 2x8GB of Kingston HyperX Fury 2666 MHz:

@Bill_To

I finally got that LED bar to work.  Video of it here

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/2zVRcAqe6DA

I found that OpenRGB actually recognized the 30L led controller

BeemerBiker_0-1734620584654.png

The only app that actually worked was the basic and advanced option of the Omen Game Hub.  The studio did not work.

I cannot get the front fan led to work unless I remove the led bar and use its slot.

BeemerBiker_1-1734620740582.png

The CPU fan LED is designed for the msi / asus motherboard RGB controller.  It will be difficult to get it to work.  There are not enough slots to control all the LED items.  Probably need an OpenRGB blessed controller.

BeemerBiker_2-1734621110733.png

[EDIT] BIG DISCOVERY AND IT IS ONGOING AS I AM NOT SURE WHAT IS HAPPENING

From a cold boot I have to run the OpenRGB app which somehow enables that LED light controller.

Once that OpenRGB  app runs it seems to be useless as it does nothing else. But somehow the Omen Game hub basic & advanced lighting then works and I can get the lights morphing.

At one time the Omen LOGO and the LED bar blinked synchronously but right now morphs differently.  The OpenRGB has setting for each Omen 30L led device so somehow that enables a different  arrangement of blinks.

I did not see any option in basic or advanced lighting to set logo or bar, only OpenRGB had those options that did not seem to work.

Some thoughts on the 875-1xxx (Shire motherboard system) and the 30L

The OpenRGB app detects the 30L using these identifiers

/*---------------------------------------------------------*\
HPOmen30LControllerDetect.cpp

Detector for HP Omen 30L

This file is part of the OpenRGB project
SPDX-License-Identifier: GPL-2.0-only
\*---------------------------------------------------------*/

#include <hidapi.h>
#include "Detector.h"
#include "HPOmen30LController.h"
#include "RGBController_HPOmen30L.h"

#define HP_OMEN_30L_VID 0x103C
#define HP_OMEN_30L_PID 0x84FD

The 0x103c is also the VID for for the Shire motherboard

The 84FD PID is the hex code used in the LED device

finally got it working using a python app: all 4 LEDs

https://youtube.com/shorts/EcxafA7CWJk

but cannot use game hub, light studio or openRGB yet.

Dear Forum, @BeemerBiker@Bill_To,

Closing out this HP upgrade project -wasn't exactly what I had hoped for, especially the non-XMP access for RAM overclocking.  Unfortunately, I got zero HP support on this.  Not even a single support request acknowledgement. 😠

Btw, ordered and installed 2 x 16GB of Timetec DDR4 2666 MHz dual-rank RAM sticks:
