HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop PC TG01-2000a (2Z6E2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, im currently wanting to upgrade my power supply in order to be able to upgrade my GPU and CPU. I have noticed that the power connector for the motherboard is proprietary and was wondering if there is a way to get a aftermarket motherboard and PSU into this case or if I would have to buy a new case as well. Thank you

@Sillybentley123, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

Thanks for reaching out about upgrading your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop PC TG01-2000a (2Z6E2AV). You're absolutely right to be cautious, this model uses a proprietary motherboard and power supply, which limits compatibility with standard aftermarket components. Here's a breakdown of your options:

Motherboard and PSU Compatibility

Your system is likely equipped with the Erica6 motherboard, which uses a proprietary 7-pin power connector instead of the standard 24-pin ATX. This means:

  • Standard ATX power supplies are not directly compatible.
  • The case layout and mounting points are also designed around HP’s proprietary components.

Upgrade Options Without Replacing the Case

If you want to keep your current case, you can upgrade within HP’s ecosystem:

1. Compatible HP Power Supplies

You can upgrade to a 500W HP proprietary PSU.

These are available through third-party sellers like eBay or HP authorized service centers. HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support

2. GPU Upgrade

With a 500W PSU, you can safely run GPUs like:

  • NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti (dual fan models) with a single 8-pin PCIe connector.
  • Avoid GPUs that require more than one 8-pin connector or exceed 250W TDP.

3. CPU Upgrade

The Erica6 motherboard supports AMD Ryzen 5000 series CPUs, but not Ryzen 7000 or newer. Make sure to check BIOS compatibility before upgrading.

If You Want to Use a Standard PSU and Motherboard

To install a standard ATX PSU and motherboard, you’ll need to:

  1. Replace the case – HP’s TG01 case has proprietary mounting and limited space.
  2. Buy a new ATX-compatible case that supports your desired motherboard and GPU.
  3. Transfer components like RAM, storage, and GPU (if compatible) to the new setup.

Steps to Proceed

  1. Confirm your motherboard model:
    • Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and check the BaseBoard Product.
  2. Decide your upgrade path:
    • Stay with HP parts for a simpler upgrade.
    • Or go full custom with a new case and standard components.
  3. Check HP PartSurfer for PSU availability: HP PartSurfer
