HP ENVY 700-215xt CTO Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My PC was hanging on boot complaining of a disk error.  Upon investigation, it turns out that the problem was not the main disk but the 16GB SSD cache.  I replaced the cache and now the system boots fine, and the SSD cache passes the hardware test, so far so good.

I'm not sure there's a problem, but the task manager doesn't show any activity on the device, and I saw a posting somewhere about difficulties getting a replacement cache to work, so I'd like to know how to verify that the cache is actually being used by the system.

How can I test this to make sure???

Thanks!!    paul

Hi, thanks for the link.  I don't think I see "Optane" in my system at all.

I think it's not the same as my 16GB SSD mSATA is it?

see the different links of the site, and this
if you just installed the ssd, maybe you didn't configure it?

Thanks, but I definitely don't have Optane memory (as shown in picture) installed.  I have what must be the previous cache options, which is a SanDisk  SDSA6DM-016G-100 (https://www.amazon.com/HP-mSATA-Sndisk-724426-001-SDSA6DM-016G-1006/dp/B01M4GN4AR).

It seems it is not configured as a storage cache (probably got lost when I went to Windows 10).  Any help there??

Thanks.

paul

yes, 'that's what I thought, you just set up the disk, but not configured, right?

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05591811

so you should be able to reconfigure everything by following what is said here!

Thanks Prométhée.

Yes, I believe the new SSD hardware is installed and functional, but the system is not properly configured to use it.

Unfortunately, it seems that the support page you indicated is for configuring "Intel Optane"  NOT which is not what I have installed.  Is there a similar page for non-Optane disk cache, or are there specific parts of the page you reference that are applicable to my situation?

Thanks much!

paul

ok, sorry, I see what you mean..
so far, I seemed to have seen other hp links..
But in general the one given will be in the first result
so it seemed to me that it must also work, and you give me the doubt
moreover it is actually written

Which HP consumer desktop computers currently support Intel Optane technology?

Intel Optane-enabled. The following consumer desktop computers are Intel Optane-enabled:
  • HP ENVY Desktop 750-600 PC series
  • HP ENVY Desktop 790-000 PC series
  • HP ENVY Curved 34-b100 All-in-One Desktop PC Series
  • HP Pavilion 24-r000 All-in-One Desktop PC Series
  • HP Pavilion 27-r000 All-in-One Desktop PC series
  • HP Pavilion 570-a000 Desktop PC
  • HP Pavilion 590-a00 Desktop PC
  • HP Pavilion Power Desktop 690-000 PC Series
  • HP Pavilion X 24-000 All-in-One Desktop PC Series
  • HP Slimline 270-a000 Desktop PC
  • OMEN by HP 870-300 Desktop PC Series
  • OMEN by HP 880-100 Desktop PC Series

I must therefore check, if I find this old link, if not the choice to do otherwise, but, I am not sure of being able to find it

in the meantime see if the links help

Thanks Prométhée.

Right, my PC (ENVY 700-215xt CTO) is not in the list for Optane, so the page you sent is not exactly applicable.  It's possible that some of the steps on that page could apply to my system, but before I risk doing the wrong thing, I want to try to find the instructions that apply precisely to my system.
If you can help find configuration instructions for my system, I would be most appreciative.

Thanks.

paul
