I dont think its HPs fault.
Before you removed the original Optane module, did you do the required disabling process first, before disconnecting the Optane memory from your motherboard? If not, you will get the no boot drive error.
Will the system boot up now if you reinstall the original module? I doubt the system would reject a 32GB module.
But you would be better off installing an SSD, instead of a bigger Optane module. Windows will run much faster. Then use the hard drive for data and game storage.
