Hi @Girbiderb,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

Deciding between an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 and an AMD GPU for your OMEN 25L Desktop (GT11-0012na) involves considering several factors such as performance, compatibility, power consumption, and your specific needs. Additionally, whether a 500W power supply unit (PSU) can support the RTX 3060 along with an Intel Core i5-10400 and 16GB RAM is crucial. Here's a detailed analysis to help you make an informed decision:

GPU Comparison: NVIDIA RTX 3060 vs. AMD

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060:

  • Performance: The RTX 3060 offers excellent performance for 1080p and 1440p gaming, along with ray tracing and DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) support.
  • Features: It comes with NVIDIA's suite of features like DLSS, Reflex, Broadcast, and more.
  • Power Consumption: The RTX 3060 has a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of around 170W.

AMD Radeon GPUs:

  • Performance: AMD GPUs such as the Radeon RX 6600 XT or RX 6700 XT also offer strong performance in similar price ranges, with competitive 1080p and 1440p performance.
  • Features: AMD's offerings include features like Smart Access Memory (SAM) when paired with compatible Ryzen CPUs, and FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), an alternative to DLSS.
  • Power Consumption: The power consumption of AMD GPUs varies, with the RX 6600 XT having a TDP of around 160W and the RX 6700 XT around 230W.

Power Supply Considerations

NVIDIA RTX 3060 with 500W PSU:

  • Power Requirements: NVIDIA recommends a 550W PSU for systems with an RTX 3060. However, a 500W PSU may be sufficient if it is of high quality and has good efficiency (80+ Bronze or better).
  • System Load: With an Intel Core i5-10400 (TDP 65W) and 16GB RAM, the total system power consumption is likely to be around 300-350W under load, leaving some headroom.
  • Safety Margin: While a high-quality 500W PSU could work, it might not provide much margin for overclocking or adding additional power-hungry components.

AMD Radeon GPUs:

  • RX 6600 XT: Recommended PSU is 500W. This should be safe for your system configuration.
  • RX 6700 XT: Recommended PSU is 650W. A 500W PSU is likely insufficient for this GPU.

Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Girbiderb,

Please find the next set of steps below.

Recommendations

For the RTX 3060:

  • Ensure your 500W PSU is of high quality (80+ Bronze or better).
  • If you experience instability or power issues, consider upgrading to a 550W or higher PSU.

For AMD GPUs:

  • The RX 6600 XT is a good fit with your current PSU.
  • Avoid the RX 6700 XT unless you upgrade your PSU to at least 650W.

Decision Factors

Performance Needs: Consider the games and applications you use. If you prioritize features like ray tracing and DLSS, the RTX 3060 is a strong choice. If you prefer AMD's ecosystem and features like SAM, the RX 6600 XT is also excellent.

Budget: Compare the prices of the GPUs and any potential PSU upgrade.

Future Upgrades: Think about future-proofing your system. If you plan to upgrade other components, a higher wattage PSU might be beneficial.

Conclusion

For your current setup with a 500W PSU, the NVIDIA RTX 3060 can work if the PSU is high quality, but it's near the recommended limit. The AMD RX 6600 XT is a safer option power-wise. If you can consider upgrading your PSU, either GPU will serve you well depending on your specific feature preferences and use cases.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
