If your OMEN by HP Transcend 16 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-u1000 series is affected by a firmware-related issue where:

  • A “System BIOS Update Failed” message can briefly appear during boot.
  • In Device Manager, System Firmware might show Error Code 10 or 14 with a yellow exclamation mark.
  • F.29v BIOS update failure

Reason

When a BIOS update from Windows Update is applied, which can result in the firmware showing Error Code 10 or 14 in Device Manager and a brief BIOS update failure message during startup.

Troubleshooting steps

1) Check for these signs:

  • During startup, you briefly see “System BIOS Update Failed.”
  • Windows still loads afterward.
  • In Device Manager, under System Firmware, you see Error Code 10 or 14.

2)Perform a hard reset

If your computer suddenly fails to boot properly, perform a hard reset (power reset).

For detailed instructions on resetting your computer, see HP PCs - How to power reset your computer.

Performing a hard or forced reset on your HP notebook.

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Disconnect the AC adapter.

  3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.

  4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.

  5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.

  6. With the AC adapter unplugged, press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.

  7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.

3)Install the correct BIOS/System Firmware from HP Support

Try to manually install the appropriate BIOS update driver from HP Support:

  1. Go to HP Support.
  2. Enter your serial number or product name.
  3. Click Submit.
  4. Open Software, Drivers, and Firmware.
  5. Select your Operating System and version, then click Submit.
  6. Expand All Drivers.
  7. Select BIOS System Firmware.
  8. Choose the appropriate or latest version.
  9. Click Download.
  10. Follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

4)Recover the notebook BIOS

When you upgrade the BIOS on your notebook, your hard drive stores a copy of the previous BIOS version. As long as the hard drive remains functional, you can recover and install the last good version of the BIOS.

Note: Follow these steps even if the monitor is blank.
  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Connect the notebook to a power source using the AC adapter.

  3. While the notebook is off, press and hold the Windows + b key press combination.

  4. While still pressing the Windows + b key press combination, press the power button for one second, and then release the keys.

The power light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds. You might hear beeping sounds. The HP BIOS Update screen is displayed, and the BIOS update begins.

5) If the system crashes, shows black screen, or BIOS does not restore properly

try doing hard reset:

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Press and hold the power button for more than 10 seconds.
  3. Power on the laptop.

5) After the computer starts into Windows normally

After you have completed the troubleshooting process and your computer has booted normally into the Windows operating system, follow these procedures.

  1. Run HP Support Assistant to update HP software and drivers.

  2. Run Windows Update to update the operating system and software.

  3. Run an antivirus program to remove any viruses or malware.
