Experiencing system crashes and encountering error code 0x3B during GPU or CPU-heavy gaming can be caused by various factors.

Here's a detailed guide to troubleshooting and resolving this issue:

Possible Causes:

  1. Incompatible or Outdated Drivers: Graphics or system drivers may not be up-to-date or compatible.
  2. Overheating: High temperatures during intensive gameplay can lead to system instability.
  3. Hardware Issues: Issues with the memory, GPU, or even the CPU can lead to crashes.
  4. Corrupted System Files: System files that are corrupt or missing may trigger this error.
  5. Software Conflicts: Installed software might conflict with Windows operations.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Update Drivers:

    • Ensure that all system and graphic card drivers are updated. Use Windows Update, or visit the HP Support site to download and install the latest drivers.

  2. Check for Overheating:

    • Use the OMEN Command Center or similar tools to monitor CPU and GPU temperatures.
    • Ensure your laptop has proper ventilation. Avoid playing on soft surfaces like beds or couches that can block air flow.
    • Clean the vents and fans to remove dust buildup.
    • If overheating persists, consider using a cooling pad.

  3. Run a Memory Test:

    • Use the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool to check for memory problems. If memory errors are detected, consider adjusting or replacing the RAM.

  4. Check System Files:

    • Run the System File Checker tool via Command Prompt with  sfc /scannow to repair corrupted system files.

  5. Disable Overclocking:

    • If your laptop utilizes any overclocking features, revert to the default settings using the OMEN Gaming Hub.

  6. Check for Software Conflicts:

    • Uninstall any recently installed software or updates that may have started the issue using Control Panel or Settings.
    • Check for unnecessary background applications using Task Manager and close them.

  7. Reset BIOS Settings:

    • Enter BIOS setup and reset to default settings. Ensure the BIOS is up-to-date.

  8. Test Hardware Components:

    • Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to extensively test hardware components, ensuring they are functioning correctly.
