Please help me with my laptop, I installed Windows 10 and the video card driver from the HP website, this driver is old, if I update it to the latest, then when I start Windows the laptop freezes, for a couple of seconds and the brightness drops to a minimum, this happens with every reboot or startup of Windows, it's not the laptop, on the same other laptop the problem is identical, the laptop model: HP Omen 17-an179wm

Hi @Miwet, and welcome to HP Support Community!
Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.
I understand you're experiencing freezing and brightness drop issues after updating the video card driver on your HP Omen 17-an179wm running Windows 10. Since you've confirmed the issue occurs on multiple identical laptops, it's likely related to driver compatibility or a conflict with Windows settings.
Here's how to resolve it:
Roll Back to HP-Recommended Driver
The HP-provided driver is tested for stability with your laptop model. If the latest NVIDIA driver causes issues, it's best to revert to the HP version:
- Go to the official HP driver page for your model: Official HP® Support
- Download and install the graphics driver listed under Driver-Graphics (usually NVIDIA).
- Restart your laptop and check if the issue persists.
Disable Fast Startup (Windows Feature)
Fast Startup can cause driver initialization issues during boot:
- Open Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended).
- Save changes and reboot.
Clean Install Latest NVIDIA Driver (Optional)
If you prefer using the latest NVIDIA driver, try a clean install:
- Download the latest driver from NVIDIA's website.
- During installation, choose Custom (Advanced) and check Perform a clean installation.
- After install, reboot and test.
Check for Conflicting Software
Some third-party apps (like screen dimmers or GPU monitoring tools) can interfere with brightness and driver behavior. Try disabling or uninstalling such apps temporarily.
Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
Outdated BIOS or chipset drivers can cause hardware initialization issues:
- BIOS: HP Consumer Desktop PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) (Windows) | HP® Support
- Chipset: Install the latest Intel chipset driver from the same HP support page.

the thing is that everything works fine on the old driver, I am a computer specialist myself, I have tried absolutely everything, the latest driver that launched without problems is the 555 version of the studio for pc, I just want it to work on the latest driver because while there is an update coming out for this card, I still haven't been able to fix it and am using version 555 for now

@Miwet, Thanks for the update and for sharing your expertise.
Recommended Workaround (Until NVIDIA Fixes It):
Use Stable Driver Version 555.99 or Earlier
You've already identified that Studio Driver 555.99 works reliably. Stick with this version for now:
- Download NVIDIA Studio Driver 555.99
- Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode before installing to ensure a clean setup.
Disable Fast Startup
Fast Startup can exacerbate cold boot issues:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup
- Save and reboot
Advanced Suggestions (Optional):
- BIOS Update: Ensure your BIOS is the latest available from HP: Official HP® Support
- Try NVIDIA Desktop Driver: Some users have had success installing the desktop variant instead of the laptop version. Use DDU before switching.
I hope this helps!
