Hi @Kevinthehotdoge,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Omen 17 laptop is experiencing a significant drop in performance after overclocking, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check for Overclocking Issues
Reset Overclocking Settings:
- If you used software to overclock, reset the settings to default. This can be done through the overclocking software you used or through BIOS/UEFI settings if applicable.
Reboot into BIOS/UEFI:
- Restart your laptop and enter BIOS/UEFI settings (typically by pressing a key like Esc, F2, or Del during startup).
- Ensure that any overclocking settings are disabled or reset to default.
2. Update Drivers and Software
Update Graphics Drivers:
- Go to the NVIDIA website to download the latest drivers for your 4080 GPU.
- You can also use NVIDIA GeForce Experience to automatically update drivers.
Update System BIOS/UEFI:
- Check HP’s support website for any BIOS/UEFI updates for your model.
Update Windows:
- Ensure your operating system is up to date by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
3. Check for Thermal Throttling
- Use monitoring software like HWMonitor, MSI Afterburner, or HWInfo to check CPU and GPU temperatures.
- Ensure that the laptop’s cooling system is functioning properly. Dust buildup can affect cooling performance.
- Consider using a cooling pad to help with thermal management.
4. Check Power Settings
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep and ensure that you are using a high-performance power plan.
- Check BIOS/UEFI settings for power management features and ensure they are set to maximum performance.
5. Run Diagnostics
- Run built-in diagnostics from HP Support Assistant or restart your laptop and press Esc to access HP Diagnostics.
- Perform tests on the GPU and CPU to check for hardware issues.
- Look for any error messages or warnings in the diagnostic reports.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
