Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb0000 (598U8AV)

Hi, I have noticed that my 5600h has a long TDP of 35w, it doesn't go up nor down just stops there, Temps are perfect at 71C full load, I don't get why this would happen after the BIOS update, could be a bug, didn't use any 3rd party software nor anything, reset Windows to no avail. My GPU seems to be working fine no thermal issues at all, The normal TDP of this processor lineup should be 45W under full load, 54W short boost and 65W burst, I don't seem to be getting that at all when using prime95 stress tester. Using Omen gaming Hub Performance mode Fyi, the TDP doesn't defer from Default mode, Performance mode doesn't work as intended after the BIOS update. Please fix this issue, I can't play CPU-bound games properly. Most appreciated.

Hi @AnujKumar1,

Thank you for sharing the above information.

It seems like the recent BIOS update has caused the power limits (TDP/STAPM) for your AMD Ryzen 5600H processor to become constrained to 35W, which is below its standard long-term TDP of 45W. This limitation impacts the performance of your system, particularly in CPU-intensive tasks like gaming or stress testing. Here are some steps and potential solutions:

1. Recheck the BIOS Settings

  • Reset BIOS to Defaults: After a BIOS update, some settings might not apply correctly. Enter the BIOS setup during boot (usually by pressing F10, Del, or Esc) and select "Load Setup Defaults" or a similar option. Save and exit.
  • Check Power Settings: Ensure no ECO mode or equivalent setting is enabled that could cap the TDP.

2. Verify with HP Omen Gaming Hub

  • Reinstall Omen Gaming Hub: If the performance mode isn't working as intended, the Omen software might not be applying the correct profiles after the BIOS update. Reinstall the software and test.
  • Test Custom Profiles: Use custom settings in Omen Gaming Hub to manually set a higher performance profile for testing purposes.

3. Windows Power Plan

Ensure the power plan in Windows is set to "High Performance" or the custom HP Omen plan if available:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select the "High Performance" plan or the Omen Gaming Hub-created plan.

4. Check STAPM and TDP Behavior

  • Use HWiNFO or similar tools to monitor TDP and STAPM settings in real-time while stress testing or gaming.
  • If the power is capped at 35W even in "Performance Mode," this may confirm a firmware-induced bug.

5. Roll Back BIOS (if necessary)

If resetting settings and software doesn't resolve the issue, you might consider rolling back to the previous BIOS version where the processor behaved as expected:

  • HP BIOS Rollback Procedure:
    1. Download the older BIOS version by click on the below link and refer to the below image on the bottom left you have to option to download the previous version of BIOS.

After Doing all the Above it seems the stubborn PL doesn't vanish, here is a graph for the power limit,

as it is shown 65W burst

54W short boost,

AnujKumar1_1-1732244665422.png

35W smooth flatline, doesn't even budge 45(end of test)

Results really disappoint, please release a newer better Bios update or firmware update. About the BIOS rollback, when i download F19 back on my computer, in device manager it seems to have a frustrating error Device will work after restart, which leads it back to the current version of Bios i don't think its possible to go back now.

Thanks Have a great day ahead.
