Hello,

I recently updated my laptop to BIOS version F.25 and noticed a new setting labeled "Battery Protection." I was hoping this would finally allow manual charge limiting (like stopping at 80%) to help preserve battery health, but I can’t find any option to set a specific percentage. The feature seems pretty vague.

Does anyone know what this setting really does behind the scenes?
Is it just an automatic behavior, or are we eventually going to get manual control in future BIOS or software updates?

Thanks!

Best regard,

tim

@tim753milner, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

This setting toggles HP’s Adaptive Battery Optimizer.

It’s a light form of charge moderation—once enabled, the laptop “learns” from your usage patterns (especially plugged-in periods) and automatically limits charging to help reduce wear

However, you can’t specify a precise limit like 80%—it’s fully automated and not user-tunable.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
