Hi @Daisy_14,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Victus 15 laptop is experiencing issues with overheating and rapid battery drain even when idle. Here are a few steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem.

Check for Background Processes

  • Task Manager: Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc. Look at the "Processes" tab to see if any applications are using a lot of CPU or memory.
  • Startup Programs: Check the "Startup" tab in Task Manager to see which programs are set to start when your laptop boots up. Disable unnecessary ones.

Update Software and Drivers

  • Windows Update: Ensure your operating system is up to date.
  • Driver Updates: Visit the HP support website to download the latest drivers for your Victus 15 model, especially those for the CPU, GPU, and chipset.

Check for Malware

  • Antivirus Scan: Run a full system scan using your antivirus software.
  • Malware Removal Tools: Consider using tools like Malwarebytes to check for any hidden malware.

Power Settings

  • Power Plan: Go to Control Panel > Power Options and ensure you are using a balanced or power saver plan.
  • Advanced Settings: Adjust the advanced power settings to ensure your laptop isn’t set to high performance by default.

Thermal Management

  • Clean Vents and Fans: Dust and debris can block ventilation. Use compressed air to clean out the vents and fans.
  • Thermal Paste: If you are comfortable opening your laptop, check if the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU is still effective. Reapply if necessary.

Battery Health

  • Battery Report: Generate a battery report by typing powercfg /batteryreport in Command Prompt. This will give you a detailed report on your battery’s health.
  • Battery Calibration: Fully charge your laptop, then use it until the battery is completely drained and the laptop shuts off. Recharge it fully again without interruption.

BIOS Update

  • BIOS Settings: Ensure that the BIOS is up to date. Sometimes, HP releases updates that fix power management and thermal issues.
  • BIOS Defaults: Resetting BIOS settings to default can sometimes resolve power issues.

Software Conflicts

  • Uninstall Unnecessary Software: Sometimes, third-party software can cause conflicts. Uninstall any software you don't need.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of the overheating and battery drain issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
