I'm trying to install a Crucial brand 500 GB NVMe m.2 PCIe SSD in my new laptop. It shows up in Device Manager, but not in Disk Management or File Explorer. How do I get the system to recognize it as an actual storage drive?

You say it shows up in Device Manager, but not in Disk Management?

Have you tried uninstalling it from the Device Manager, then rebooting?

I must say, you are rather going backwards here also. The idea is to install Windows on the SSD and use the HDD for storage. Easiest way to do that is to disconnect the HDD when installing the SSD, install Windows and make sure its working. Then wipe the HDD for storage (after you backup your data of course).

Unless thats what you intended to do after a while.

Thank you for the reply. My intention was to disconnect the original hard drive and do a clean windows install on the new ssd, I was simply trying to make sure it was installed and functioning properly before proceeding. I've attempted uninstalling the drive through device manager and rebooting, and the status has stayed exactly the same. Any other ideas? Thanks again.

I should also add, I did attempt the install of windows to the SSD, with the HDD detached, and the Win installer did not recognize any drive available to install to.

In that case I wouldnt know whats wrong either. In these types of situations, Ive seen where the user ended up having to get another drive. Im sorry I cant help more.
