HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4W0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have noticed recently that after recharging my battery up to 83% it has stayed there even after hours of use. This is the second time this has happened, the last time the battery monitor showed I had plenty of power left but the computer died and I had to recharge it.

I have seen some instructions online that said to turn off the computer and press the power button for 15-20 seconds and then restart the computer. I have done this and the battery status is still showing 83%.

How can I fix this problem please?

Hi @nigelinspain ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your laptop battery status is not updating correctly, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

Calibrate the Battery:

  • Fully charge your laptop battery to 100%.
  • Use your laptop until the battery drains completely and the laptop shuts down.
  • Recharge the battery to 100% without interruptions.
  • This process helps recalibrate the battery and may correct inaccurate battery readings.

Update Device Drivers:

  • Ensure that your laptop's operating system and device drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause battery-related issues.

Check Power Settings:

  • Go to the Power & sleep settings in Windows 11.
  • Under the "Power mode" section, ensure that you are not using a power-saving mode that might limit battery charging.

Update BIOS/UEFI:

  • Check if there are any BIOS/UEFI updates available for your laptop on the HP website. Updating the system firmware can sometimes resolve battery-related issues.

Reset Power Management Settings:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  • Type the following commands: powercfg /batteryreport
    powercfg /energy

  • Examine the generated reports for any errors or warnings related to the battery.

Check for Battery Driver Issues:

  • Open Device Manager and find the "Batteries" category.
  • Right-click on each item under "Batteries" and choose "Uninstall device."
  • Restart your laptop, and Windows will reinstall the necessary drivers.

Run Battery Diagnostic Tool:

  • Windows usually comes with a built-in battery diagnostic tool. You can run it to check for any potential issues.
    • Press Win + X and select "Windows PowerShell (Admin)" or "Command Prompt (Admin)."
    • Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.

Check for Background Processes:

  • Some background processes may be preventing your battery from updating correctly. Use Task Manager to check for any unusual processes consuming excessive resources.

Check for Malware:

  • Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to ensure that there is no malware affecting your system's performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
