I have been trying to work through a battery charging issue. Currently it’s not the AC adapter and I have a new battery on order. I tried updating the bios, but as I did the computer completely died and would no longer charge for more than 1 second. I removed the battery and held the power button for 30 seconds. Then recconected that did not work. Out of curiosity I removed the battery all together and plugged in the AC adapter to try and get it to turn on purely on the AC adapters power. Any more recommendations? I would prefer to cancel the battery order if there is a solution someone knows.

Greetings!
Welcome to the HP Support Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, there's an issue with the battery.
Appreciate you trying the steps. Don’t worry, I’m here to help!
As the computer works with the adapter plugged-in, this could be a battery failure. Let's run a battery test -
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F2 once.
4) Go to Component test.
5) From the list, run the Battery test.
