Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-s0000 (76T54AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi community,

I have recenlty bought a Victus 16- S0005NT on 1 February 2025. When I control my battery life from bios, I see different values. For example first day it was 91%. Today it is 99.1% and yesterday it was 98.5%. Also some days before it was 103%. I saw also different values apart from those values between 88% and 103%. Is it normal or not? What should I do? Thanks for your answers

Hi Garp,

I did all of your suggestions. Actually i have done before you said. I checked my battery on hardware diagnostic. According to those tests there is no problem. I calibrated my battery. The battery was finished fully and taken charge. I also cheched bios updates and i saw the bios is the last version. It is interesting but still it has been changing. Now the battery health changes between 102-98%. Especially last 2 weeks i didnt use my laptop on battery mode. I have been using it on charge. I also contacted with technical support. He said there is no problem, dont worry. I wish there is no problem, thanks for your interest about mine problem

I’m here to help you troubleshoot this issue and get everything back to shipshape. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you sailing smoothly in no time:

It’s normal to see fluctuating battery percentage readings, especially right after purchasing a new laptop. The battery percentage shown in the BIOS or software tools can sometimes be influenced by factors like battery calibration, power management settings, or updates.

  1. Battery Calibration: New laptops sometimes require a calibration period. The battery may not show accurate percentages until it’s properly calibrated, which involves draining it down to around 5-10% and then charging it back to 100%. This helps the system learn the battery’s true charge capacity.
  2. Battery Health Check: Many laptops have built-in battery health diagnostics in the BIOS. You can check the battery’s status there to see if it's reporting any issues, such as a degraded health status.
  3. Battery Management Software: Ensure that any battery management software (like HP Command Center or Windows Power Options) is set to optimize battery life rather than just focus on performance. This can affect how your laptop charges and displays the battery status.
  4. BIOS Update: Sometimes, the BIOS firmware needs to be updated to better manage the battery. Check HP's support website for any available BIOS updates for your laptop model.
  5. Windows Battery Settings: Go to SettingsSystemPower & battery and see if there are any additional settings or updates related to battery health. Also, check Battery Saver mode to see if any settings could be affecting how the battery percentage is reported.
  6. Battery Consumption: It's also possible that power-consuming apps and processes are causing the battery to fluctuate. You could check the Task Manager to monitor which apps are using the most battery.

Overall, slight fluctuations in battery readings can be normal due to software, power management, or calibration, especially in the first few days after use.

I’m confident this will work wonders, but if you run into any bumps along the way or need further assistance, don’t hesitate to give me a shout! I’m always ready to help, just like a trusty first mate. 💪

@joyuci,

It sounds like you've been incredibly thorough in troubleshooting your battery concerns—checking diagnostics, calibrating, updating BIOS, and even consulting technical support. That’s a solid approach! 💪

The fluctuation between 102-98% in battery health might seem odd, but it’s actually quite normal. Battery wear levels can shift slightly due to recalibration, charging patterns, and even temperature changes.

If technical support has assured you there’s no issue, that’s a good sign! But if you ever notice sudden drops in battery life, overheating, or unexpected shutdowns, it might be worth keeping an eye on. Otherwise, it looks like your battery is doing just fine. 😊

Glad to help, and if you ever need anything else, I’m here!
