The GPU fan has a faulty bearing, it has significantly higher friction than the other one and has issues running, starting up it is extremely jittery and continues with high vibration afterwards and tends to stop and repeat the process.

Quite frustrating given the laptop is a year old and poor material selection has resulted in premature wearing of the fan components.

Has this been a recurring issue or have I just drawn the short straw on this one?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • Shut down the computer, and then inspect and clean the exterior vents to remove dust buildup by blowing air through the vent openings. Dust can accumulate inside the vent openings and around internal cooling components, preventing the removal of heat.

For more information on reducing heat inside your computer, see Reducing Heat Inside the PC.

  • After you remove the dust, turn on the computer. If the error message persists, continue with these steps.
  • Perform a hard reset. Performing a hard reset can reset recorded thermal values in memory and enable you to use the computer again, even if only for a short time to access and save any important files before service.

For more information on performing a hard reset, see Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues.

  • In some cases, updating the BIOS might help prevent this error from occurring. For more information on how to update the BIOS, see Updating the BIOS.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello,

To clarify my issue, it is not a problem regarding dust buildup or over heating, I clean my computer regularly and since this issue occured I haven't been using it for anything more than watching videos.

I have removed the fan and heatsink assembly and inspected the fan to find it has significantly higher friction and more lateral play than the fully functional fan,  leading to it having difficulty starting and maintaining speed all while having significant vibrations due to the aforementioned freedom of movement, to reduce damage to the surrounding components from chafing I have disconnected the fan.

The main question is, is it a quality control issue, or it is poor material selection is resulting in premature failure of the component?

Best regards,

BRU-56.
