Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution
HP Recommended

Problem Description:
After updating the BIOS from version F24 to F26, the laptop's fans started behaving erratically, turning off and on randomly. Attempts to roll back the BIOS to version F24 have been unsuccessful. The rollback process fails when it reaches the "clearing pending image" stage, and the laptop shuts down at that point.

Steps Taken:

  • Verified the correct file structure and followed HP's instructions for the rollback process.

  • Tried multiple USB ports and a newly purchased USB drive.

  • Attempted to disable the TPM on Windows 10 and then again on Windows 11, but the issue persists.

Additional Info:

  • The laptop model is HP OMEN 16.

  • The issue began immediately after the BIOS update.

Hi @Nasirjr24,

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

  1. Ensure Proper BIOS File and Structure:

    • Ensure you are using the correct BIOS file version specific to your laptop model.
    • Verify that the USB drive is formatted to FAT32, as this format is required for BIOS recovery.
  2. Use HP BIOS Recovery:

    • Turn off your laptop completely.
    • Insert the USB drive with the correct BIOS file.
    • Press and hold the Windows + B keys, and then press the power button for 2-3 seconds.
    • Release all keys, and the system might try to recover the BIOS using the USB drive.
  3. BIOS Recovery from HP BIOS HP Support Assistant:

    • Utilize the HP Support Assistant to check for any alternative options for BIOS recovery or updates.
    • Sometimes newer updates or tools can resolve ongoing issues from previous versions.
  4. Clear RTC (Real-Time Clock) Memory:

    • This involves resetting BIOS settings, which can sometimes clear settings causing erratic fan behavior.
    • Access BIOS setup by powering on the laptop and pressing F10.
    • Look for an option to reset BIOS settings to default or clear the RTC memory.
  5. Consult HP Support for Assistance:

    • Contact HP support for professional help, as BIOS-related issues can sometimes require detailed attention.
    • HP support may provide specific recovery methods or a different BIOS version to install.
  6. Update to the Latest BIOS Version:

    • If F24 rollback continuously fails, try updating to even newer BIOS versions beyond F26, if available.
    • Sometimes newer versions address issues found in previous updates.

Hey thanks for the reply.

İ realized version F26 doesn't allow installation for previous versions so i guess rollback not possible so I'm wondering if there's newer versions than the F26 or any softpaq links for a newer versions because i can't find one in the website.

Thank you so much for your reply but i have tried all these steps and still the problem isn't solved so i believe my only hope is a newer version of bios to flash because i can't even flash the same version again to try fixing any courrpted files or so.
