The bios never finishes, when I do a bios update I get only as far as ( The System BIOS pending image is being cleared. Do not turn off the power to your computer. The clear will take a few minutes to complete and it is going on 15 minutes and counting, is this to long and should I retry from the start once again.

Hi @GlennMc777

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that your BIOS update process is stuck at "The System BIOS pending image is being cleared" for an extended period, here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power it on.
  • This clears temporary memory and forces the printer to re‑initialize.

Retry the BIOS Update

  • Go to the official HP Support website for your model. https://support.hp.com/au-en/products
  • Download the latest BIOS update file.
  • Ensure you select the correct model and operating system version.
  • If the update requires a bootable USB:
  • Use HP’s instructions or a tool like HP BIOS Update Utility to create the USB.
  • Insert the USB into the computer.
  • Restart and boot from the USB to reinstall the BIOS update.
  • Follow on‑screen prompts carefully.
  • Do not power off or disconnect during the update.

Check for Corrupted Files

  • Verify the BIOS update file downloaded correctly.
  • If the file is corrupted, re‑download it from HP’s site.
  • Avoid third‑party sources—always use HP’s official support page.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
