HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec1050ax

A huge black bar is popping up on my screen horizontally, It only persists when the screen is running at 144hz, as i switch to 60hz, it works fine. I have attached a pic to demonstrate what kind of issue this is.

I have tried updating my drivers, my drivers are up to date. Also i found that the laptop screen uses igpu to run, and HDMI used DGPU. as of now external display is working fine so i think the DGPU is okay.

Some additional info: I tried booting bios once i have already set my screen to 60hz, just to see if bios get the black bars too.

And yes black bars persisted on bios screen as well irrespective of the setting being set to  60hz or 144hz.

Now my main question is how can i find out that i need to get my screen replaced or is the problem with igpu.

Hi @NikunjSaxena,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've done some troubleshooting already, which is great. Since the issue persists even in the BIOS screen, it's likely not a software-related problem, but rather a hardware issue. Here are a few steps you can take to further diagnose the problem.

  • Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the screen closely for any signs of physical damage, such as cracks or pressure marks. If you see any, it's likely that the screen needs to be replaced.
  • External Monitor Test: You mentioned that the external display is working fine. This is a good indication that the dedicated GPU (DGPU) is functioning properly. However, if possible, try connecting the laptop to a different external monitor to rule out any issues with the current monitor.
  • Run Hardware Diagnostics: Many laptops come with built-in hardware diagnostic tools that can help identify issues with components like the GPU. Check your laptop's user manual or manufacturer's website for instructions on how to run these diagnostics.

Based on the symptoms you've described, it's possible that the problem lies with the laptop's screen rather than the integrated GPU (IGPU).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
