Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb0000 (598U8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all,

My bluetooth has stopped working. After uninstalling the adapter and restarting, the bluetooth works for a minute, and then stops working again. In the device manager, this is what I see:

arthurvanooijen_0-1787914116466.png,

when I click properties, I get a "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

What I have tried:

  • Power flush
  • Checked for windows updates
  • Uninstalling the bluetooth adapter in the device manager and restarting
  • Uninstalling the bluetooth adapter in the device manager and manually installing the drivers

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @arthurvanooijen,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for listing everything you have already tried. Since Bluetooth works for a short time after the adapter is uninstalled and then returns with Code 43, this indicates that Windows is detecting a problem with the Bluetooth device. HP also identifies Code 43 as a device problem and recommends reinstalling the device driver. Since you have already completed that step, I would not have you repeat it unnecessarily.

Please try these steps next
1. Check Windows Bluetooth troubleshooting

Go to: Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Bluetooth → Run

Allow Windows to complete the troubleshooting and apply any recommended correction.

2. Check the Bluetooth adapter

  1. Right-click Start → Device Manager
  2. Expand Bluetooth
  3. Double-click the Bluetooth adapter showing the Code 43 error.
  4. Select the Driver tab.
  5. Please note the Driver Provider, Driver Date, and Driver Version.

Do not install another driver yet, since you have already manually reinstalled the driver.

3. Check for a driver rollback
If the problem started after a recent driver or Windows update:

  1. In the same Bluetooth adapter Properties window, select Driver.
  2. Check whether Roll Back Driver is available.
  3. If it is available, select it and restart the notebook.

HP confirms that Device Manager can be used to roll back a driver when a device begins failing after a driver update.

4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
Since the adapter continues to report Code 43 after reinstalling the driver, I would also check the hardware.

  1. Restart the Victus.
  2. Immediately press Esc repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.
  3. Press F2 for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI
  4. Run the available Wireless/Network hardware test

If the test reports a failure, note the complete Failure ID and share it with us.

Please also follow HP's official Bluetooth troubleshooting guide: HP PCs - Troubleshooting a Bluetooth connection in Windows | HP® Support

At this point, the Bluetooth adapter name/driver information and the HP Hardware Diagnostics result are the most useful. If you can provide those, we can determine whether we are dealing with a driver/Windows issue or whether the Bluetooth hardware itself may be reporting a problem.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @arthurvanooijen

Thank you for responding.

Since the troubleshooting did not resolve the issue and the rollback option is unavailable, I recommend uninstalling the MediaTek Bluetooth Adapter driver and restarting the PC. Windows should automatically detect the adapter and reinstall the driver. Once completed, please check whether the Bluetooth issue is resolved.

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Bluetooth.
  • Right-click MediaTek Bluetooth Adapter → Uninstall device.
  • If you see “Attempt to remove the driver for this device”, check that box.
  • Click Uninstall.
  • Restart the PC.
  • After Windows starts, check Device Manager → Bluetooth again.
  • Test Bluetooth.

I hope this helps.

Have a good day.

Hi Palli,

I tried this. Windows did not automatically reinstall the driver on the bluetooth adapter. I found this device

in the device manager. When I clicked 'Update Driver' windows and let it automatically search for drivers, windows determined that it already had the best drivers installed.

Hi @arthurvanooijen

Thank you for responding.

I understand that Windows automatically installed the driver and you are now seeing an error, with Error Code 43 being displayed. This may indicate that the driver needs to be reinstalled manually. I would request you to please uninstall the existing driver, restart the device, and once the system restarts, manually install the latest available driver from the official HP Support website. https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Hi Palli,

I downloaded the last four versions of the drivers for the MediaTek, however windows does not recognise any of them as drivers for the device. Below you can see what I did

arthurvanooijen_1-1788429176529.png

It also does not work to let Windows "Search automatically for drivers" or "Let me pick from a list of avalaible drivers".

Hi @arthurvanooijen

Thank you for responding.

I understand that you are trying to update the drivers. However, I had requested that you first uninstall the existing driver.

I would also request you to please share the serial number with me via private message so that I can identify the correct driver for your system and provide it to you for installation.

I have uninstalled the existing drivers. When I click "Driver Details" Windows tells me that there is no driver installed. I installed the drivers from the HP website. Having HP detect my device and inserting the serial number gave the same result and I arrived at this page on the HP site. I cannot message you, I get the following error:
