HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop - 15-dk1035nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The bottom of my screen is starting to turn black, all the way from left to right side of the screen; maybe a millimeter or two up so far. For example I am slowly losing the bottom of the date in the bottom right hand corner. Does the entire screen need to be replaced? Also why is this happening? The laptop has never been dropped, thrown or mishandled.

My warranty expired 11 days ago ironically.

Thanks.

Hi@TylerPostans,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing screen issues with the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop screen is getting black from the left to right on the bottom right hand corner.

I have a few recommendations

  • Update your Notebook computer to the latest BIOS from HP.COM.
  • Make sure the Windows and HP support assistant updates are up to date.

Try and check in Bios using the F10 key if the screen is getting black from the left to right bottom in Bios. To enter Bios, click restart and keep tapping the F10 key and then turn on the PC at the same time to enter Bios screen.

If the issue persists in Bios then it is a hardware issue on the screen.

Everything is up to date. I checked BIOS and the issue persists in there as well. The progression is about a cm up the screen now. I have shut down the laptop and let it sit for a day, when I turn it back on, there is no issue. However after 30mins-ish, the black bar reappears and begins its slow ascension up the screen again. Some times the bar is solid black, as if it is eating the screen from the bottom, other times it is small stripped black bars, that show partial bits of the screen between the bars.

Hi@TylerPostans,

Thank you for responding, I appreciate your time and effort.

Try doing Reset PC Keep my files from windows and check if it works. If the issue persists then it is a hardware issue. As we have limited support boundaries in the support community as of now. I would request you to contact our HP Support Engineers and should be able to sort this out.

Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options.

So the first link you posted circles me back to this messaging board. Do you have an actual link that takes me to someone with HP who could assist with repairs?

Preferably an email or live chat, as opposed to sending me a phone number where I go through dozens of automated scripts before I sit on hold for a few hours...

Also I am not 100% sold on a reset, seeing as I would have to re-download all apps regardless of if it fixes the problem or not.  Therefore, I have no performed a reset yet, however if I was provided an estimate for potential repairs cost I would be more incline to try a reset and go through the hassle of setting my laptop back up.

Thank you.

UPDATE: I just performed the Reset, to no ones surprise that did NOT help the situation, if anything it may slightly be worse as in the creeping black portion of the screen has increased further up.
