Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

From purchase day the brightness was unajustable from the windows control panel or Fn+F1,F2 keys.

When I went to service, it was fine.

I notice that I can solve it by closing the lid and reopen it after 1-2 seconds, but this is not a fair solution, cause the problem can happen anytime.

Any help?

BIOSVersion
{"HPQOEM - 1072009", "F.07", "American Megatrends - 5000D"}

Not F.16

I still close the lid for 2 sec, when that happens, and after that it's ok

Hopefully I don't have other people problem and my screen locks at high brightness

I'm guessing the brightness of the screen is real dim and wont change until you put it asleep and wake it?

Seems to be a glitch in HPs newest bios update.  A few others have had that issue also. One user discovered the flaw in the bios as it happened after he updated it.

To get around this, he changed the bios boot option from UEFI to Legacy mode.

F10 at power-on gets into the bios. Arrow over to System Configuration and find Legacy Support there.

I don't think you will need to disable Secure Boot also.

Let me know if you need further help.

The brightness was staying at 100% and I discovered this problem when I tried to reduce it for battery saving. I'll try your method and I'll answer again

I believe it was users who had updated to bios version F.16 that had the issue. IF yours is an earlier bios, that solution might not work. Let me know how it goes.

I have the same laptop, bought less than a month ago and noticed the same problem , as the brightness control functions whenever it feels like it.

I have not updated the BIOS manually, dunno if it was included in a standard update centre update though. Since it is not a user induced problem , is messing with the BIOS the only way? Cause I bet most people would hesitate to do something like that as do I, although what you described is nothing complicated.
