Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with the built-in camera on my HP laptop. Whenever I try to open the Camera app or use it for video calls, I get a message saying "0xA00F4244 (NoCamerasAreAttached)." It’s like the system doesn’t even recognize that there’s a camera at all.

I have tried few things.

  • Looked for a physical camera switch on the laptop — pretty sure this model doesn’t have one.

  • Checked privacy settings — camera access is on for all apps and services.

  • In Camera settings, Windows just says no camera is found.

Hi @rohaid

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details and the troubleshooting steps you've already completed. We understand that your HP Victus 15-fa0000 is displaying the error 0xA00F4244 (NoCamerasAreAttached), and Windows is not detecting the built-in camera.

Since privacy settings have already been verified, let's focus on checking whether the camera hardware is being detected by the system:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Cameras and Imaging Devices.
  3. If the camera is listed:
    • Right-click the camera and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart the laptop and allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.
  4. If no camera appears:
    • In Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices.
    • Check whether the camera appears under Cameras, Imaging Devices, or Other Devices.
  5. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI:
    • Turn off the laptop.
    • Press the Power button and immediately tap Esc repeatedly.
    • Press F2 for Diagnostics.
    • Run the available component tests and note any camera-related results.
  6. Check for BIOS and driver updates using HP Support Assistant:
    • Open HP Support Assistant.
    • Install any available BIOS, chipset, or camera-related updates.
  7. Perform a hardware reset:
    • Shut down the laptop.
    • Disconnect all external devices.
    • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
    • Restart and test the camera again.

If the camera is completely absent from Device Manager (even with hidden devices shown), please let us know whether it appears under Other Devices or if it is missing entirely. That detail will help us determine the next troubleshooting steps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

When I start my system in device manager>cameras I can see the "HP Wide Vision HD Camera" (see attached 1). As soon as I try to check the camera, whether it be using builtin Camera App or Zoom etc, it show the error and in Device manager it gets removed from the main list and then show under Hidden devices>Camera but this time  "HP Wide Vision HD Camera" appears disabled (see attached 2).

I have tried all the steps you mentioned, HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI doesn't show anything related to camera, HP Support Assistant says system is up to date nothing to update, and did hardware reset too but the problem persists.

Hi @rohaid

Thank you for the update and for confirming the detailed testing you've already completed.

Based on the behavior you described, the camera is initially detected as HP Wide Vision HD Camera in Device Manager, but disappears and moves to Hidden Devices as soon as an application attempts to access it. This helps narrow the issue to either the camera driver stack or communication between Windows and the camera hardware.

Please try the following additional steps:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Cameras and right-click HP Wide Vision HD Camera.
  3. Select Uninstall device and check Delete the driver software for this device if the option appears.
  4. Restart the notebook.

After the restart:

  1. Open Settings > System > Recovery > Advanced Startup > Restart now.
  2. Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  3. Press 7 to disable driver signature enforcement.
  4. Once Windows starts, open Device Manager and select Action > Scan for hardware changes.
  5. Test the camera again.

If the issue continues, please check whether the camera remains visible in BIOS Hardware Diagnostics or if it disappears only after Windows loads. Also, share a screenshot of the camera device's Properties > Events tab from Device Manager, as it may provide additional information about why Windows is disabling the device.

Hi, I tried the steps you shared but still no luck. Unfortunately, I don't know how to check BIOS Hardware Diagnotics. However, attaching the screenshot of the event's log.

The issue is still the same it show's enabled until I open any app and try to access the camera, after that it's show the same error and goes back to hidden devices as disabled.

Hi @rohaid

Thank you for sharing the screenshot and for taking the time to complete all of the previous troubleshooting steps.

The Events log is helpful. From the screenshot, Windows shows entries such as "Device started", followed by "Device deleted" shortly after. This aligns with the behavior you described, where the HP Wide Vision HD Camera is detected initially but disappears when an application attempts to access it.

Let's perform a few additional checks to help isolate whether Windows, the BIOS, or the camera hardware is causing the device to disconnect:

  1. Shut down the notebook completely.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately tap F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS.
  3. In the BIOS, press F9 to load default settings, then select Yes.
  4. Press F10 to save and exit.

Once Windows loads:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Select View > Devices by connection.
  3. Expand the available categories and locate the HP Wide Vision HD Camera.
  4. Double-click the camera, select the Details tab, and change the property drop-down to Hardware Ids.
  5. Share a screenshot of the Hardware Ids shown.

Also, please test the camera in Windows Safe Mode with Networking:

  1. Open Settings > System > Recovery.
  2. Under Advanced Startup, select Restart now.
  3. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  4. Press 5 to start Safe Mode with Networking.
  5. Open the Camera app and check whether the camera remains detected.

Please let us know:

  • Does the camera stay visible in Device Manager while in Safe Mode?
  • Does the camera disappear only when an application tries to access it?
  • Can you share the Hardware IDs screenshot from the camera properties?

Those results will help us determine the next steps with greater precision.

I followed the steps. Here's the screenshot of the Hardware Ids.

In safe mode, the camera device stays visible in the device manager however when trying to access the camera app it shows the same error "we can't find your camera". Same for the normal mode too, but in normal mode on windows startup the camera show in the list but hides as soon as an app tries to access it.
