CPU Temperature Issues i7-10750H

HP Recommended
OMEN Laptop 17-cb1003na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have recently bought a new OMEN 17-cb1003na laptop (1 week ago):

  • i7-10750H
  • RTX 2080 Super

And I have some CPU temperature issues. I have managed to reach +97C with the OMEN performance mode and maximum fan speed while gaming (+the cooling pad was working as well). The OMEN default mode has dropped temperatures to approximately +90C with maximum fan speed and cooling pad. Currently, the external temperature in a room is +20 Degrees Celcius, so the above values will be higher in a warmer environment...

Unfortunately, I am not able to undervolt the i7-10750H as it is locked. I am looking at the following options:

  • Replace the current CPU thermal paste with the liquid metal thermal paste. I have never done this before but there is plenty of video instructions online. The question is, will this terminate my guarantee agreement?
  • Limiting CPU power. As far as I understand CPU power limit in a default mode is 45W+ and in a performance mode is somewhere close to 55W+, so I was looking to decrease above numbers to reduce CPU temperature. Unfortunately, I will lose some performance and because of this, I would do this as the last option.

Would be grateful for some advice.

I have looked on my current BIOS version and it is F.10. Currently, the newest BIOS is F.14 Rev.A. I am not sure, but could the newest BIOS update improve the temperature performance?

@Mykhailo_A Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are facing CPU Temperature Issues.

There are many ways to increase FPS and system performance:

  • Update the BIOS.

For desktop PCs, go to HP Desktop PCs - Updating the BIOS

For notebook PCs, go to HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS

  • Update the graphics driver.

Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, enter your PC model, then select the driver for your graphics card.

  • Most games allow you to change the graphics settings. Using a lower graphic quality often improves FPS.

  • Close any applications or programs that are not being used.

  • Turn on Game Mode. Game Mode is a new feature in Windows 10 Creators Update that improves gaming performance by limiting background processes and programs from using system resources while a game is running.
