Title:

Built-in Camera Not Detected / Camera Option Missing – HP Victus 15-fb0xxx

Message:

Hello HP Community,

I am facing an issue with the built-in camera on my HP Victus laptop. The camera is not working, and the camera option has disappeared from Windows.

Here are my laptop details:

  • Laptop Model: Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fb0xxx
  • System SKU: 788X9PA#ACJ
  • Windows: Windows 11 Home Single Language
  • Windows Version: 25H2
  • OS Build: 26200.9457
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600H with Radeon Graphics
  • RAM: 24 GB
  • BIOS: AMI F.26, dated 20/03/2026

I have already tried several troubleshooting steps, including:

  • Checking Windows Camera settings and camera permissions
  • Checking Device Manager for the camera
  • Restarting the laptop multiple times
  • Checking the available camera/video test options
  • Checking for camera driver-related issues
  • Checking Windows settings related to the camera
  • Confirming that my laptop does not have a physical camera privacy shutter
  • I have also completely reset the laptop, but the issue is still present.

Even after resetting Windows, the built-in camera is still not detected/available, and I cannot use the camera.

I would like to know whether this issue could be related to the camera driver, BIOS/firmware, Windows, or the camera hardware itself.

Could an HP expert please guide me through the correct troubleshooting steps? I would especially like to know how I can:

  1. Check whether the camera is being detected at the BIOS/hardware level.
  2. Check whether the correct camera driver is installed for my specific HP Victus model.
  3. Reinstall or recover the camera driver if necessary.
  4. Determine whether this could be a hardware failure.

I have already performed a complete Windows reset, so I would appreciate any additional troubleshooting steps that can help identify the root cause.

Thank you for your help.

It looks like you did all the correct procedures.

Have you run diagnostics? Tap the ESC key after powering on. Tap it once a second after you see the LEDs on the keyboard flash. When you see the startup menu, press F2 to run diagnostics.

If you do not see the webcam test then update the diagnostics:

Spoiler
HP releases newer UEFI diagnostics periodically.
When you select F2 during boot you are requesting UEFI diagnostics.
There is an updated diagnostics package Click Here
Look for the phrase 'issues outside the OS',
Expand the'+'symbol and click the DOWNLOAD button.
The version of the UEFI diagnostics is shown at the left of that DOWNLOAD button.
When you press F2 to run diagnostics please ensure the version is the new one.

If a component fails during the UEFI test then Click here to check warranty

Bring up the Windows device manager and try rolling back the camera driver. Possibly a Windows update installed the wrong driver.

Did you try rolling back the camera driver?

It could be the camera driver or the USB driver if the camera is connected to the USB. Many internal cameras are connected to the USB.

In the pictures below you would select the camera driver and then look for 'rollback' If the word 'rollback' is grayed out then the old driver is not present.

You mentioned you reset the system.  If it is critical that you get the camera working you could try a factory restore since you are fully supported.

If you do a factory restore then bring up the device manager and make a note of the driver version.  If a subsequent windows update replaces that driver then you can find and restore the old driver.  HP and other OEMs use generic windows drivers for many laptops.  for example, the windows driver above is a Microsoft driver and dated June 2006.
