My laptop comes with a 256GBs SSD hard drive, and I have been running out of space. I was wondering if it's possible to add an extra HDD to it, or is the only option to upgrade to a larger SSD.

Thanks

Yes you can keep both drives installed at the same time. Since the HDD will be new and you are not installing an operating system to it, the process should be very easy. IF the new drive isn't detected in Windows, you might have to go to the Disk Manager and initialize the drive so that it can be formatted and given a new drive letter.

I don't know that they will. I have heard from some that they wont, but you would have to ask them to make sure.

I cant speak officially for HP on Warranty issues. But I can tell you as my own opinion that If you do it yourself, adding the drive yourself wont void the warranty unless you broke something while in the process.

The new drive would also not be covered and you would have to remove it before sending it in for warranty repairs.

If you cannot find those parts on the web, you would have to use the HP Parts finder to order them.

You will have to choose the country you are in, then search those part numbers.

Hello @Shizuoo

Yes that series also comes with a 2.5 inch HDD (or 2.5 inch Sata SSD) type of drive. But if yours didn't have it factory installed, you might also need the bracket and harness to hook it up with.

Thanks for the quick answer.

I have checked the manual, and I could see at page 47 that it says how to remove the HDD. So, if I understood correctly, I can keep my already existing SSD and add say 1 TB HDD, right?

Also do you know if I can have this done by HP themselves, as opening up the laptop myself will cause loss of warranty.
