Hello! I recently got a new laptop for school since it was a hassle to carry my HP OMEN to school everyday. I decided to make the OMEN my new desktop at home. I was wondering, is it possible to use the OMEN with the power adpater all the time and get rid of the battery? I read that charging a laptop all the time with a battery will generate heat especially when playing games. Is it fine to constantly charge the OMEN with the battery? I will not be taking my OMEN with me anywhere. Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello @kevinsub
I have left my laptop plugged in while playing games and it has not damaged my battery. The system is setup to stop charging the battery once is reaches a certain level, despite what some say on the internet.
You can also go into the bios and change the Battery Care Function to stop charging the battery at a different percentage.
F10 to enter the bios at startup. Its usually listed under System Configuration>Battery Care Function.
The higher heat generated while gaming when plugged in is due to the system feeding full power to the cpu for maximum cpu performance. When you game on battery only, the system throttles the cpu so it can save power and generate less heat. But you will lose performance also.
IF you decide to remove the battery, you can certainly do so. But I personally wouldnt go that far. If your power went out, the battery can act as a power backup so you dont shut off abruptly.
Its up to you. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06001792
Hope that helps a little.

Rick's answer: Thanks for the kind words Chris. To answer your question, it's fine to leave your laptop plugged in even when the battery is fully charged. When plugged in, the laptop receives its power from the wall outlet and the battery in effect serves as a “Battery Backup Device”.Aug 15, 2019
