Hello @niraz_1980

You can upgrade to another brand or model as long as its an M.2 NVMe SSD.

Actually, the specs do say a Sata can be used, but HP did not build any with Sata installed.

Samsung and Crucial SSDs work great in them.

Thanks for your prompt response, actually i got worried after reading at sme forum that Dell only supports OEM versions of  NVME M.2 drives,so got confused.

Also Can you please let me know if i can make a fresh OS install over the new NVME drive and ,

does all these hardware or software upgrades would void the HP warranty ?

Actually I prefer a clean install, rather than cloning. So yes you can.

You wont void your warranty but the new drive wont be covered.

Keep your old drive available in case you need to put it back in to send in for coverage.

Out of your own experience need one last advice..Should i replace my secondary HDD with sata SSD ? but somewhere i read  SSDs can go wrong due to excess temperatures in gaming laptops & data can't be recovered later.

there is a chance of over heating that could maybe affect the SSD . Personally I would use the HDD more for the cost per gig though, for more storage space. Its a personal choice.

I was reading that one can't directly install Fresh OS over a fresh NVME drive ,You need to install it somewhere else on a HDD then clone it & then install drivers for the fresh nvme drive.

BTW thanks for all your previous replies.

Dont know where you read that but yes, you can clean install onto an M.2 drive as I mentioned earlier. I prefer this over cloning.

There may have been issues when NVMe first came out, but Windows 10 will install just fine to it now days.

Disconnect any other existing drives first.

Yes, you can upgrade.

And you can even copy that whole 128gb m.2 to your new Samsung 970 evo m.2 ssd.

I have done this with my HP Omen 15 2018. No issues at all if you use a dedicated program like EASEUS Todo Home Back Up. I did not even have to use an m.2 adapter. EaseUs makes a preOS environment so that you can simply back up original m.2 SSD to an external drive (using EasUs), swap the m.2 drives, then let the EaseUs pre-OS environment copy the drive to the new one. That way, your old m.2 can be a last resort back up with all the original contents.
