HP OMEN 15 -dc0003na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Can anyone help me in how to change the default location of the storage on the HP Omen 15? All downloads seem to download to SSD rather than the 1TB Hard drive, its a pain having to manually choose where it goes every time i download something. i have already selected in the setting on windows for apps etc to go there but the problem seems to persist.

*How can i change the default storage location for everything to go to the HDD (other than the OS and start up)*

Hello @Ppedro

You sort of have a two part question. You can change the default folders for data in the C drive to a physically different drive like D. Then you have your browser that you can also direct the saved locations to.

To change the Windows default location for folders, go to the D drive and create new folders for each one you want to move.

Name them the same, Downloads, Pictures, etc.

Then open Windows file explorer and right click on one of the default folders like Downloads and choose Properties.

Now choose the Location tab.

move downloads properties.JPG

Click the Move button and navigate to the new Download folder you just created on the other HDD, then click the Select folder button. Click OK to exit.

Do this for each folder you want to move.

Does this not work?

This works (Kind of) however it always seems to make a copy of it in my Program Files and or Program Files (x86) and i have to go in and either move that particular file into the HDD and delete the previous file...

That doesn't make any sense if you followed the instructions above properly. Otherwise, I don't know what weird thing you have going on with your system.

But you also say in another thread that the laptop is now dropping frame rates while plugged in to the charger. That shouldn't happen either unless something you installed changed your settings, there is a physical fault in the power board on your motherboard, or maybe a bad power supply.

I might suggest you contact HP Support directly for a warranty issue with the power. They might have you do a factory reset to reinstall the OS and see if all these things clear up. Contact HP Worldwide | HP® Official Site
