OMEN by HP - 15-dc0084tx
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I’m having an issue with my Omen 15 DC 0084tx laptop where the charger stops charging after some time, even after recently replacing the OEM battery. While the number of disconnects has lowered after the battery replacement, the problem still persists.

Here’s what’s happening:

• The laptop stops charging randomly after a while.
• When I remove the charger pin from the laptop or turn the wall socket off and back on, it doesn’t start charging again.
• The only way to resume charging is to unplug the charger from the wall socket and plug it back in. Then it starts charging again.

Steps I’ve Tried So Far:

1. Replaced the OEM battery — it improved the situation but didn’t fully resolve it.
2. Tried different wall sockets, including ones with a surge protector.
3. Inspected the charger for any visible damage (none found).
4. Checked the charger for overheating after it stops — it sometimes feels warm, but not excessively hot.
5. Updated the BIOS and power management drivers.
6. Performed a hard reset (held down the power button for 30 seconds with no power source connected).
7. Calibrated the battery by draining it to 0% and then charging back to 100%.
8. Tried the basic troubleshooting steps from YouTube like holding the power button, removing and recalibrating the battery, and installing/updating drivers.

Since I don’t have access to another charger to test, I’m wondering if this could be a charger issue, a problem with the wall socket, or something else (like the power management system or motherboard).

Any suggestions on what else I can try? Has anyone encountered this problem before?

Thanks for your help!

@Amity024

Your machine is a sister of my machine which is an HP Omen 15-dc0071tx.

Please using HPSA to run battery test and calibrate your battery. I did post the problem with my charger and battery back around Christmas 2020 at that time battery alone was A$265 therefore I ignored  to replace and use UPS for my Omen.

I also posted after a year or so, battery resurrected by itself, no more problem after that. Now charging capacity is around 75%-80% but it is 6 years old (actually last week, on 7 Sept 2024) now therefore I bought a zBook to replace it (because I don't play games).

My point: that is unpredictable after 6 years, just ignore it.

Regards.
