My computer (bought 3 weeks ago) will either randomly turn off or will freeze (froze twice today) while running simple games. It makes it unable for me to move my mouse and I can't do anything until I restart my computer. What do I do? This is my first windows computer and I checked it for updates and ran it for issues in the Support Assistant app and it all came back as normal. Thank you!

Hi @SpencerBlu,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Victus by HP 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop experiencing random shutdowns!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Temperature Levels: Overheating can cause shutdowns or freezes. Ensure your laptop has adequate ventilation, and use tools like HP Support Assistant or third-party software to monitor CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming.
Update Graphics Drivers: Even if HP Support Assistant says drivers are up-to-date, manually check for the latest GPU drivers from the manufacturer's website (AMD or NVIDIA). This can often solve compatibility issues with games.
Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs: Use Task Manager to disable non-essential startup programs that might be consuming resources or causing conflicts during gaming.
Check Power Settings: Ensure your laptop’s power settings are optimized for performance when plugged in to ensure the system doesn't shut down due to power-saving modes.
Game Compatibility and Settings: Verify the game’s compatibility with Windows 11. Lower graphics settings to see if that prevents freezes, especially if the game is demanding.
Run Memory and System Diagnostics: Use Windows Memory Diagnostic or HP's built-in diagnostic tools to check for any underlying hardware issues.
Inspect for Malware: Run a full antivirus scan to rule out any malware causing system instability.
Perform System Restore or Reset: If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider performing a system restore to a point when the computer was stable, or use Windows' reset feature to reinstall Windows while keeping personal files.
I hope this helps.
