Hi @Phoenix126,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2145AX is showing the Ctrl key as stuck on the on-screen keyboard, even though the physical keyboard tests fine, it’s likely a software or driver-related glitch. Let’s walk through a few steps to gently reset that behavior.

Step-by-Step Fix for Stuck Ctrl Key

1. Check for Sticky Keys or Accessibility Settings

Sometimes Windows accessibility features cause keys to behave oddly:

  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard.
  2. Make sure Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, and Toggle Keys are all turned off.

2. Reinstall the ELAN Keyboard Driver

Your laptop uses the ELAN Precision Touchpad and keyboard filter driver, which may be corrupted.

Steps:

  1. Press Windows + X and choose Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards and Human Interface Devices.
  3. Right-click the ELAN Keyboard Filter Driver or Standard PS/2 Keyboard, and choose Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your laptop Windows will reinstall the default driver.

If the issue persists, download the official driver: 👉 HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2145AX (552W2PA) | HP® Support

3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

To rule out hardware issues:

4. Try External Keyboard (Optional)

Connect a USB keyboard and see if the Ctrl key behaves normally. If it does, the issue is likely with the internal keyboard driver or firmware, not the OS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi, Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately I have already tried all the above steps and the issue still persists. It doesnt happen with an external Keyboard. Sticky keys, filter keys and toggle keys are all turned off. My keyboard driver is not ELAN, only touchpad driver is ELAN, The keyboard driver is Standard PS/2 Keyboard, reinstalling the driver didnt fix the issue, I checked the HP driver page for my laptop and there are no Keyboard Drivers available on the website. I ran the keyboard test and its not a problem with my keyboard. I dont Know what else to do, its a very annoying bug. Please find a solution to it.
