The dedicated GPU on my laptop still consumes 2-5 watts on battery power. The Nvidia app and MSI afterburner shows that the dedicated GPU core and memory clock sometimes dropped to 0, but then quickly jumped up again. Eco mode is already set in omen gaming hub, power saving mode and best efficiency power plan is also set in windows settings. I've reinstalled omen gaming hub, Nvidia driver, and Windows but they don't change anything. Battery life dropped from 5 hours to barely 3 hours because of this.

My laptop model is Victus 16 r0017tx. At first I noticed that the idle temperature is higher than usual (even in low room temperature).
Omen gaming hub shows gpu usage at 0% but not inactive
The Nvidia app shows 0 watts power draw, but gpu clock, gpu voltage, and vram clock spike
And Msi afterburner shows the dedicated gpu (gpu1) still consumes 2-5 watts of power constantly
Apparently this model don't have advanced optimus, although I don't know it has something to do with this

Hi @ThePeruvian,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the issues you're experiencing with the HP Victus 16-r0017TX gaming laptop, where the dedicated GPU remains active on battery power, which can indeed affect battery life and temperatures. Here's a step-by-step guide to address and potentially resolve the problem:
1. Verify No Background GPU Activity
- Applications or processes may inadvertently use the GPU. Check if any of the following are running in the background:
- NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D Settings → Check "Program Settings" for any programs forced to use the GPU.
- Use Task Manager → "Processes" tab → Look for GPU utilization.
- Close unnecessary applications, including browsers with hardware acceleration enabled.
2. Adjust NVIDIA Settings
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel:
- Go to Manage 3D Settings.
- Under the Global Settings tab, ensure that Integrated Graphics is selected as the preferred graphics processor when on battery.
- Disable any settings like G-Sync or other features that may keep the GPU partially active.
3. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
- Download and install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers from the HP Support website specific to the Victus 16-r0017TX model.
- BIOS updates often address power management issues.
4. Reinstall or Roll Back GPU Drivers
- Completely uninstall the existing NVIDIA drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in safe mode.
- Reinstall the latest NVIDIA Game Ready or Studio drivers directly from NVIDIA's website.
- Test with an older stable version of the driver if the latest version doesn’t resolve the issue.
5. Check Omen Gaming Hub Settings
- In the Omen Gaming Hub, ensure:
- Eco Mode is enabled.
- GPU overclocking is turned off.
- Any automatic performance-enhancing features are disabled when on battery.
6. Disable Persistent Windows Features
- Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling:
- Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics Settings.
- Turn off hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling.
- Disable background apps:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features and disable unnecessary background apps.
7. Manual GPU Deactivation
If the issue persists, consider manually disabling the dedicated GPU while on battery:
- Open Device Manager.
- Locate Display Adapters → Right-click the NVIDIA GPU → Select Disable Device.
- Re-enable it when you need to use the dedicated GPU.
8. Reset Power Configuration
- Run the following commands in Command Prompt (Admin):cmd
powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
powercfg -h off
powercfg -h on
- Then, re-enable your power-saving configuration.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
