I was given a OMEN by HP 15-dh0015nr and I turned on Power on password authentication because at the time I felt like it was needed, more recently however I've been wanting to disable the power on authentication and i'm finding that it looks to be impossible. what I have tried so far is all the stuff that the virtual assistant can think of, going into bios and disabling it. 1 problem tho, there is no disable power on password and it won't let you leave the field blank when you try to change the power on password. I've even tried resetting back to default security settings and even that didn't work. is there anything else I can do besides opening up the laptop and resetting the bios clock? I'm trying to avoid having to open up the computer because of the fact that i'm seeing potential problems of hardware damage.

or in the end am I just screwed and just stuck with it eternally on forever?

Hello @GregorThyStinky ,

Welcome to the HP community.

A quick community search for the terms BIOS & Password finds all these posts >here<, which are mainly closed with the below explanation:

Unfortunately, you will need to contact an HP agent for problems with BIOS passwords.

Here is HP's official policy regarding BIOS passwords:

According to the Community's Rules of Participation:

4d. No posts shall include instructions/directions intended to bypass or subvert security mechanisms such as lock screens, BitLockers, BIOS lock, passwords, fingerprint/biometry scanners, PINs, or any other safety measures.

Therefore, this topic is being locked. If you would like help resetting the password on your product, please Contact HP support in your region.

For cases related to BitLocker issues, please contact Microsoft Support.

The only way to recover your PC's BitLocker key is if you printed it out or exported it to your Microsoft account when you first set up your PC.

Find your BitLocker recovery key - Microsoft Support

Without the key, you will have to clean install Windows on the encrypted drive so you can use your PC again.

Best regards

Steffen Baier
