Pavilion 15-Ec0003nq
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello all! When I shut down/restart my laptop, the display turns off normaly but the fans, HDD and lights are still running for 1-2 minutes more. I tried to disable the fast startup but no results, scanned registry, no results, ran the troubleshoot for power, no results. This was happened to me 1 month ago aswell, but after I ran the power troubleshoot, the problem was solved and the laptop worked well till the 3 days ago windows update. Is there any other way to solve this or I should reinstall windows?

@Iulian0599 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the laptop will not shutdown

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Did any updates happen on the laptop after which this issue started?
  • Does the laptop power off after it overheats?

While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

During my research, I came across this HP document that helps fix overheating related issues in Windows 10: https://hp.care/2J4TLJW

Secondly, you may download and install the BIOS update for your laptop via this link: https://hp.care/2Lr4Fbb

NOTE: Please have the charger connected to the laptop while updating the BIOS. Because the BIOS update must not get interrupted due to the battery draining out.

If the issue still persists, please perform the system reset.

Windows 10 has a reset feature that repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This feature is recommended for recovery because it reinstalls Windows 10 while either preserving your personal data and customizations or removing all your personal data.

You have a choice of two methods to reset your computer.

  • If Windows 10 loads correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset in Windows in this document.

  • If Windows 10 does not start correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset through Windows Recovery Environment in this document.

Thank you for the reply. I tried the above methods except system reset. My laptop is not overheating at all. I let them turned on for 1h after I call it a day for it, while I'watching TV, usiing phone etc, and after 1h of doing nothing, wehn I shut down it, my pc still running for like 1~2 minutes after the display goes off. This happened after last Windows 10 update, 1 week ago.

@Iulian0599

I understand your concerns.

To uninstall a specific Update, you have to be able to boot into Windows, run Windows Update, select Update History, find the update and uninstall it.  IF you can't get that far, you can't remove an Update.

After uninstalling the update. Do not check for windows updates.

Have a nice day!!
