OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop 16-n0000 (5B1T6AV)

I own an OMEN by HP Gaming Laptop 16-n0xxx (2023), and I've been trying to figure out if it can charge via USB Type-C. I reached out to customer support, and one representative told me that it could charge with a 100-watt USB Type-C charger. However, I didn't test this as I didn't have one available and was hesitant to buy one in case it didn't work. Later, I spoke with another support agent who said the laptop could only be charged with the 280-watt power brick, and that Type-C might not be an option. I've also searched online, but the information is conflicting. I even tried using a 65-watt USB Type-C charger, but it didn't work.

I hope this can finally help clarify whether my HP Omen 16 (2023) is compatible with USB Type-C charging or Not.

Thank You!

Hi:

Chapters 1 & 2 of the service manual indicates you can charge the notebook via the USB-C port:

Hi @KareemAK5

According to my experience with other laptops, you should use a 280 Watt charger, equal or higher than the charger you currently have, otherwise only by turning off the laptop you can charge it.

One additional matter before we conclude our discussion: should the charger be a 100-watt USB-C model for it to charge?

Thank you for your assistance.

The service manual indicates those watts, but in my experience that only works when the device is turned off, in order to use the device and use the load it should be 280 watts.

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that the USB-C port's power delivery is from 65 W to 100 W output.

I understand your point. However, I frequently change locations, and carrying the power brick for the light tasks I perform on

my PC is not efficient.

Thank you for your input.

You're very welcome.

The issue is that I attempted to use a 65-watt USB Type-C charger, but it did not indicate any charging process.

Unfortunately, I would not know why that would happen and wouldn't be able to help you with a problem like that.
