Yes, it is generally possible to downgrade your HP Victus 15 BIOS directly via a driver downloaded from the HP website, and it can be done within Windows using the official HP BIOS update tool (like HP BIOS Update Utility). However, there are some precautions and risks involved:

Is it Normal?

  • Yes, it's normal, but only if done with the official HP BIOS update utility and a version that HP supports for downgrading. HP provides these tools for upgrading or downgrading BIOS versions directly within Windows, making it convenient for users.
  • As long as you use an official, compatible version and follow HP’s instructions, it should work fine—just like it did for you when you downgraded from F18 to F12.

Things to Keep in Mind

  1. Compatibility Check:

    • Always ensure that the BIOS version you are downgrading to is compatible with your laptop model.
    • Some BIOS versions are designed to fix specific issues or improve hardware compatibility, so downgrading can sometimes remove those improvements.
  2. Risk of Bricking:

    • Downgrading or upgrading the BIOS always carries a small risk of bricking the device, especially if the process is interrupted (e.g., power failure) or if the version is not fully compatible.
    • It's crucial to ensure your laptop is plugged in and has a stable power source during the process.
  3. Back Up Important Data:

    • Although the BIOS update process usually does not affect data on your drives, it’s always a good practice to back up your important files before performing any BIOS upgrade or downgrade.

Final Thoughts

If you followed all HP's instructions and used their official tool, it’s generally safe and normal. However, if you notice any issues after downgrading, consider updating back to a stable version recommended by HP.

Downgrading the BIOS directly within Windows, as you did with your HP Victus 15 is generally possible but not recommended unless necessary. While it worked for you BIOS updates or downgrades can sometimes fail and cause system issues. It's safer to perform such tasks through the BIOS menu or using a USB drive. Always explore more and ensure the process is fully supported by your device’s manufacturer.
