HP Spectre x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-eu0000 (7K633AV)

have an hp spectre x360 2in1 14 inch-eu0xx and even though it has a thunderbolt 4, I cannot get my arzopa 15.6 portable monitor to connect (says it only needs thunderbolt 3 to power it). I have checked the cords and they work with my phone so that’s not an issue.

Hi @Chuerter,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If your HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 14 inch (eu0xx) is not connecting to your Arzopa 15.6 portable monitor via Thunderbolt 4, but the cables work with other devices, the issue could be related to the laptop's Thunderbolt settings, power delivery, or software. Here's a list of troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Check the Thunderbolt 4 Port Functionality

  • Ensure that the port you're using supports DisplayPort alternate mode for video output. Thunderbolt ports generally support both power and data transfer, but not all configurations may allow both at once, depending on the device and settings.
  • Try switching to another Thunderbolt port (if your laptop has more than one).

2. Update Thunderbolt Drivers and Firmware

  • Thunderbolt drivers may need updating to ensure compatibility with external devices like portable monitors. You can update them through HP's support page.
  • Go to HP's official support page, search for your HP Spectre x360 model, and download the latest Thunderbolt firmware and Intel Thunderbolt drivers.
  • After installing, restart your laptop.

3. Enable Thunderbolt Support in BIOS

  • Sometimes Thunderbolt ports may not be fully enabled, or there may be specific BIOS settings affecting how they function.
  • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
  • Look for Thunderbolt support or USB-C settings in the Advanced tab.
  • Make sure Thunderbolt Boot Support and Pre-boot ACL are enabled, and that Thunderbolt device security is set to No Security or a less restrictive setting.
  • Save and exit the BIOS.

4. Check Power Delivery (PD) Compatibility

  • Your Arzopa 15.6 portable monitor may require more power than your Spectre is delivering through the Thunderbolt port. Even though it specifies compatibility with Thunderbolt 3, some monitors require external power in addition to Thunderbolt video.
  • Try connecting an external power supply to the monitor (if supported), or use a powered USB-C hub to provide additional power while maintaining the data connection.
  • Some laptops throttle the power delivery on Thunderbolt ports when the internal battery is low, so ensure that your laptop is plugged into its charger when testing.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @Chuerter ,

Please find the remaining steps below.

5. Test With a Different Cable

  • Even though the current cable works with your phone, it might not fully support Thunderbolt's data and power requirements. Not all USB-C cables are created equal.
  • Use a certified Thunderbolt 3/4 cable to ensure maximum compatibility.
  • Also, ensure the cable you're using supports video output (some USB-C cables only support power or data transfer).

6. Test Monitor on Another Device

  • To verify whether the issue lies with the laptop or monitor, test the Arzopa portable monitor with another device that has Thunderbolt 3 or 4, such as another laptop or a desktop with Thunderbolt support.
  • If the monitor works with another device, the issue is likely with your Spectre x360.

7. Check Display Settings

  • Sometimes the monitor is detected but doesn’t automatically display content.
  • Go to Display settings on your HP Spectre:
    • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
    • Scroll down to Multiple displays and click Detect.
    • Ensure that the display is set to Extend or Duplicate, and adjust the resolution if necessary.

8. Test Alternative Ports

  • If your HP Spectre x360 has HDMI or another display output, try connecting your portable monitor via a different port using an adapter.
  • This will help determine if the issue is related to the Thunderbolt port itself.

9. USB-C Compatibility

  • If the portable monitor has a regular USB-C (non-Thunderbolt) input in addition to the Thunderbolt input, try connecting it using a USB-C to USB-C cable to see if that works.

  • Update drivers and Thunderbolt firmware.
  • Enable Thunderbolt in BIOS.
  • Check for power delivery compatibility.
  • Test with a certified Thunderbolt 3/4 cable.
  • Verify display settings on your HP Spectre.

These steps should help resolve the issue with your monitor connection. Let me know if you need further assistance!
