HP Victus 15
Microsoft Windows 11

Hey there! So I own a HP Victus 15 gaming laptop and its flawless. When I play games on my laptop itself, the fps is great. No problems at all.But when I connect my laptop to my 75 hz external monitor, the fps is great for like 5 minutes and then after that drops to like 20 30 ish. Its like its locked to 20-30 fps. I have tried multiple solutions like:

  1. Disabling the Intel hd gpu and only running on my RTX 3050.

  2. Keeping the laptop screen turned on with the lid open.

  3. Duplicating the screen, extending the screen etc etc..
Still the problem persists. Games I have tried and this problem occurs are Guardians of the Galaxy, Horizon Zero Dawn. Please help me. I want to game on a bigger screen other than my laptop and I know for sure that its not a hardware issue.
    Cheers!

Hi @epykftw,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already tried several troubleshooting steps to address the FPS drop when using your external monitor with your HP Victus 15 gaming laptop. Since the issue persists despite these efforts, here are a few additional suggestions you can try.

  • Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause performance issues. You can download and install the latest drivers from the NVIDIA website.
  • Check Power Settings: Make sure your laptop is set to High-Performance mode in the power settings. This ensures that the system is utilizing its resources to their fullest potential when gaming.
  • Monitor Settings: Check the settings on your external monitor. Ensure that the refresh rate is set correctly to 75Hz in both Windows display settings and in the settings of your graphics card control panel.
  • Temperature Monitoring: Monitor the temperature of your laptop while gaming. Overheating can cause throttling, which leads to decreased performance. Use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check temperatures.
  • Background Processes: Close any unnecessary background processes and applications that may be consuming system resources while gaming. This includes browser tabs, streaming services, or other applications running in the background.
  • BIOS Update: Check if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop and install them if necessary. Sometimes BIOS updates can improve system stability and performance.
  • Test Different Cable: If you're using an HDMI or DisplayPort cable to connect your external monitor, try using a different cable to rule out any issues with the cable itself.
  • Test Another Monitor: If possible, try connecting your laptop to a different external monitor to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem lies with the monitor or the laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
