Hi @nick457,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are experiencing the fan running at maximum speed when entering the BIOS on an HP Pavilion Gaming laptop could be due to several reasons, such as BIOS settings or hardware issues.

Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  • Check BIOS Settings: Enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F10 or another key during boot-up), and look for any fan control settings. Some BIOS setups allow you to adjust fan speeds or set fan profiles. Ensure that the fan settings are configured correctly and not set to maximum speed.
  • Update BIOS: Ensure that your laptop's BIOS is up to date. HP periodically releases BIOS updates that can address various issues, including fan control. You can visit HP's support website, enter your laptop's model number, and download the latest BIOS version. Follow the instructions provided by HP to update your BIOS.  HP Pavilion Gaming - 17-cd0013ur Software and Driver
  • Hardware Check: If the issue persists after checking BIOS settings and updating BIOS, it could be a hardware problem. Dust buildup, a malfunctioning fan, or issues with the laptop's cooling system can cause the fan to run at maximum speed.   HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures
  • Thermal Management Software: HP may provide thermal management software for its laptops. This software allows you to monitor and control system temperatures, including fan speeds. Install any relevant HP utilities and check if there are options to adjust fan speeds.
  • Reset BIOS Settings: If you've made changes to BIOS settings previously and suspect they might be causing the issue, try resetting the BIOS settings to their default values. This can usually be done from within the BIOS setup menu. Look for an option like "Reset to Defaults" or "Load Setup Defaults."
  • System Health Check: Perform a system health check using HP diagnostic tools or third-party software to ensure that all hardware components are functioning correctly. Pay special attention to the cooling system and fan.

I hope this helps.
