Had this problem pop up a few months ago with my Victus 15, while doing any activity, gaming, uni work or idling, a fan speeds up suddenly to max speed to then slow down to normal, i tried downloading the latest omen software update and setting bios to standard settings and still happens, dont know if it is a software problem or a hardware problem.

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Hi @Juno_Alpha,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the detailed description. Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing. Here’s how to address the sudden fan spikes on your Victus 15 laptop, whether during gaming, university work, or idle use.

1. Update BIOS and Drivers

Even if you’ve reset the BIOS, make sure it’s the latest version:

2. Check BIOS Fan Settings

  • Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Look under Advanced > Thermal or Cooling Settings.
  • Set fan mode to “Performance” or “Always On” for consistent behaviour
  • Avoid disabling fans unless for light tasks.

3. Use OMEN Gaming Hub Smartly

  • Open OMEN Gaming Hub → go to Performance Control.
  • Set to “Balanced” or “Quiet” for everyday use.
  • Use “Turbo” only during gaming.
  • Avoid undervolting unless you’ve tested stability

4. Ensure Proper Ventilation

  • Keep the laptop on a hard, flat surface.
  • Maintain at least 6 inches of clearance around vents.
  • Use a cooling pad to reduce internal heat buildup

5. Clean Air Vents

  • Power off and unplug the laptop.
  • Use compressed air to clean vents and fans.
  • Dust buildup can trigger thermal spikes and fan surges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
