  • Hello! I recently bought a HP pavillion gaming laptop just this week. It is a brand new sealed unit. A while ago I decided to run a diagnostic in it and discovered that the charge capacity is only 96%, when it says 100% if you mouse over the battery icon while its charging. Its a new laptop (only 5 days old) so im worried if my unit has a factory defect. Should I be worried?  And will calibrating the battery fix this problem?  I also noticed that the adaptive battery optimizer is on enabled/not active status. How do i fix this?

My personal opinion:

 

The battery is OK in the 96% percentile range - it is not defective - and it works.  

 

It is generally not possible to calibrate a new battery - people try to do this and then complain bitterly when the new battery won't calibrate.  What?  The Calibration process must find something that needs to be changed - if the test doesn't find anything to "fix", the battery cannot be adjusted.

 

Yeah, but...

If you are concerned,

If you believe the battery is "bad",

  1. Run a Battery Report on the battery
  2. Contact HP Support in your region

Check the Warranty on your product

         Warranty Check – Single or Multiple Devices

 

NOTE:  Warranty date is updated after purchase and registration of the device.

If the device is not registered, or if there are other issues, submit a Warranty Dispute form.

 

       NOTE 2:  If the single-system-check fails to find your device, use the "multiple devices" method to

check single or multiple devices.

 

  • If necessary, Select your Country on the main website page or at the bottom (click Flag)
  • Scroll down > To the right of Check multiple warranties, Click Continue
  • Enter the Serial Number and Country for one or more devices / systems to be checked
  • Check the box to verify you are "Not a robot"
  • Click Submit (at bottom of list entries)
  • When the page opens, Click View Details

 

Reminder: Online database results do not impact the actual contract.
