Hi, I have an almost 3 yr old HP pavilion DK0046TX gaming laptop with a core i5 9300H and GTX 1050 4gb dedicated graphics. Everything worked fine until today, when I got 2 problems --- though I am using the 135 watt adapter provided with the laptop, and it is completely fine(checked the connections, and they are firm), but the HP system event utility tells me that it is incompatible, and that my laptop will run in reduced performance mode.

And the second problem, as stated above, I am unable to play GTA 5 or other AAA titles with a good framerate. I checked the settings, changed them to normal, tried running the game in 720p res, but the maximum FPS I ever got was around 15 to 19. Previously I easily used to get 40+FPS at very high settings. I tried changing to use just the Nvidia discrete graphics in the Nvidia control panel, but no luck.

Please help

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Did you make any changes to the settings of your PC prior to the issue?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I did the normal security updates that were prompted by windows. And it was only after a week or so after the updates that these issues started. The performance issues are somewhat solved now, but the adaptor issue still persists. I am getting around 30FPS in GTA V with high settings, but still not the 50 to 55FPS as expected. I also followed your steps but it made no difference. No changes were made to the laptop.

Thank you for posting back.

Let's try these steps:

  • 1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
  • 2. Expand batteries.
  • 3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
  • 4. Shut down the computer.
  • 5. Disconnect the charger.
  • 6. Remove the battery. (only for removable battery)
  • 7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
  • 8. Insert the battery only. (only for removable battery)
  • 9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Well I don't have to tools currently for prying of the back panel, neither can I go to a service center due to the lockdown in india. Is there any other way we can try?

Thanks for helping out BTW.
