Hi @help331, Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

I understand you're seeing a “Game mode turned off by gaming console” banner on your HP ENVY Desktop PC TE01-4000i, even though you don’t have a gaming console connected. This issue can cause screen flashing, especially during video playback on platforms like Amazon Prime and YouTube.

This behavior is likely related to HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) or Game Mode settings being triggered by your display (monitor or TV), not your PC. Here's how to troubleshoot and resolve it:

Check Your Display Settings (Monitor or TV)

If you're using a TV or gaming monitor, it may have Game Mode or HDMI-CEC enabled, which can send signals to connected devices like your PC.

  • Disable Game Mode on your TV/monitor:
    • Go to your TV/monitor's Settings > Picture or General > Game Mode and turn it Off.
  • Disable HDMI-CEC (may be called Anynet+, Simplink, Bravia Sync, etc.):
    • Navigate to Settings > General > External Device Manager > HDMI-CEC and turn it Off.

Refer to your display’s user manual for exact steps, as names may vary by brand.

Check Windows Game Mode Settings

Windows Game Mode may be toggling based on display input changes.

  • Go to Settings > Gaming > Game Mode
  • Toggle Game Mode to Off

Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated or buggy drivers can cause display mode switching.

  • Open Device Manager > Display Adapters
  • Right-click your GPU (Intel/NVIDIA/AMD) > Update driver
  • Or download the latest driver from:
    • Intel Drivers
    • NVIDIA Drivers
    • AMD Drivers

Check HDMI Cable and Port

A faulty or incompatible HDMI cable can cause signal miscommunication.

  • Try a different HDMI cable
  • Use a different HDMI port on your monitor/TV
  • If possible, test with a standard PC monitor instead of a TV

Disable Display Notifications (Optional)

Some monitors allow disabling on-screen banners/popups.

  • Check your monitor/TV settings for OSD (On-Screen Display) notifications and disable them if available.

Summary

This issue is likely caused by your TV or monitor sending Game Mode signals to your PC via HDMI. Disabling Game Mode and HDMI-CEC on your display should stop the flashing and banner messages.
