Hi @THIRU_1710,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to have performance issues with a new gaming laptop, especially one that's supposed to handle demanding games. Given the specs of your OMEN By HP 16.1 Inch Gaming Laptop (AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS with Radeon 780M Graphics), it should be capable of handling games like GTA 5 and Control well, even at high settings. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issues.

Update Graphics Drivers

  • AMD Drivers: Make sure you have the latest AMD drivers for your GPU. You can download them from the AMD website.
  • Windows Update: Check for any pending Windows updates that might include important driver updates.

Check Power Settings

  • Power Plan: Set your power plan to "High Performance" to ensure your laptop is using its full potential.
    • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and select "High Performance."
  • HP Power Manager: If your laptop has HP Power Manager software, ensure it's set to optimize for performance.

Monitor Background Processes

  • Task Manager: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check if any background processes are consuming excessive resources. Close any unnecessary applications while gaming.

Adjust In-Game Settings

  • Lower Settings: Try lowering the game settings to see if performance improves. Sometimes even high-end laptops can struggle with maximum settings in certain games.
  • Resolution: Reduce the game resolution to see if it helps with FPS.

Check for Thermal Throttling

  • Temperature: Although you mentioned temperatures are under 65°C, make sure your cooling system is working properly. Overheating can sometimes cause performance issues even if the temperatures seem normal.
  • Clean Vents: Ensure the cooling vents are not blocked or clogged with dust.

Run Diagnostic Tools

  • HP Support Assistant: Use the HP Support Assistant to run a full diagnostic test. Sometimes there are hardware issues that diagnostics can uncover.
  • Benchmarking Tools: Use benchmarking tools like 3DMark to test your GPU and CPU performance and compare it with expected results.

Check for BIOS and Firmware Updates

  • BIOS Update: Sometimes, a BIOS update can improve performance. Check the HP website for any available BIOS updates for your model.

Reinstall Games

  • Game Files: Corrupt game files can sometimes cause performance issues. Try reinstalling the games to ensure the files are not causing problems.

Check for System Bottlenecks

  • Storage: Ensure your laptop’s SSD or HDD is not full or malfunctioning. Low storage space can impact performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
