Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (599K0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I typically play open-world games like GTA, Ghost of Tsushima, and Hogwarts Legacy, which have high graphic requirements and specific laptop specifications to run smoothly. While these games usually run fine, they sometimes crash randomly without any other apps running in the background and with no additional software in use.

Even with lower graphic requirement games like FIFA, which should run easily on GTX graphics cards, my laptop, equipped with an RTX card, often crashes and delivers low performance even when settings are on low.

Please provide a definitive solution to this problem.

Hi @Furybeast30 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are experiencing crashes and performance issues with high-spec games on your HP Victus laptop can be frustrating.

Here are some steps you can take to address these issues:

1. Update Graphics Drivers

  • NVIDIA Drivers: Make sure you have the latest drivers for your RTX graphics card. You can download them from the NVIDIA website or use the GeForce Experience app to check for updates.
  • Windows Update: Ensure your Windows 11 is fully updated. Sometimes updates can fix underlying issues affecting performance.

2. Check for Overheating

  • Cooling: Ensure your laptop is adequately cooled. Clean any dust from the vents and consider using a cooling pad if needed.
  • Temperature Monitoring: Use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check your GPU and CPU temperatures. Overheating can cause crashes.

3. Check for Software Conflicts

  • Background Applications: Close any unnecessary background applications that might be consuming resources.
  • Antivirus Software: Sometimes antivirus programs can interfere with game performance. Try disabling it temporarily to see if it helps (be sure to re-enable it after testing).

4. Verify Game Files

  • Game Integrity: Use the built-in file verification tools provided by game clients (e.g., Steam, Epic Games Store) to check for corrupted game files.

5. Adjust Game Settings

  • Resolution & Graphics: Lower the in-game graphics settings and resolution to see if it stabilizes performance.
  • V-Sync & Frame Rate: Enable V-Sync or cap the frame rate to reduce stress on the GPU.

6. Update BIOS and System Firmware

  • BIOS Update: Check HP’s website for any BIOS updates for your model. An outdated BIOS can sometimes affect performance and stability.
  • System Firmware: Ensure all system firmware is up to date.

7. Perform a Clean Boot

  • Clean Boot: Perform a clean boot to see if a startup program or service is causing the crashes. You can do this by typing msconfig in the Windows search bar, going to the Services tab, and checking "Hide all Microsoft services," then disabling the remaining services.

8. Check for Hardware Issues

  • RAM & Storage: Run a memory test using tools like Windows Memory Diagnostic or MemTest86. Also, check your storage drives for errors.
  • Power Supply: Ensure your laptop’s power supply is functioning correctly. Inadequate power can lead to performance issues.

9. Reinstall Windows

  • Clean Install: If all else fails, consider performing a clean install of Windows 11. This can resolve deep-seated issues that might not be fixed by other methods.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
