Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000 (76T06AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a Victus Gaming Laptop 16-r0153TX (listed as 16-r0000 in my products). Recently the GeForce rtx 4060 graphics card installed in the laptop has stopped working as it should. When I launch some programs with the GPU enabled in the device manager, some apps crash immediately on startup, however if it is disabled the program usually launches without issue, leading me to think that this is an issue with the GPU. If I were to extend the warranty for my laptop (which expired early January), would this issue still be covered by HP support? If not what can I potentially do to fix it as I don't have enough money to replace the GPU or buy a new laptop.

Additionally, when the issue first started happening, all programs open on my laptop crashed at once and the screen went black, after this I started having this issue. As a temporary fix I can disable the GPU in device manager to open some programs, however I bought this laptop specifically for the GPU so that it can render the 3D models I create in CAD for my university projects, and with it disabled, it struggles to do so. (For information I am using Creo Parametrics for all CAD related projects.)

Hi @_Ronan,

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

  1. Driver Updates:

    • Ensure you have the latest drivers installed for your GeForce RTX 4060. Visit NVIDIA's official website to download and install the most recent driver updates for Windows 11.
  2. Windows Updates:

    • Confirm that your Windows 11 system is up-to-date. Outdated system files can lead to compatibility issues with hardware.
  3. Verify Device Manager Settings:

    • Open Device Manager, find the RTX 4060 under Display Adapters, and ensure there are no error icons next to it.
    • Right-click on the GPU and select "Update Driver" to attempt an automatic update via Windows.
  4. Check for Conflicting Software:

    • Disable any background applications that might conflict with the GPU, such as third-party antivirus or optimization software.
  5. Use HP Support Assistant:

    • Run HP Support Assistant to check for system updates or hardware diagnostics that could identify the issue.
  6. Perform a Clean Installation of Graphics Drivers:

    • Using the NVIDIA installer, choose "Custom Installation" and select "Perform a clean installation" option. This will remove previous driver versions and settings.
  7. Check Power and Performance Settings:

    • Ensure the laptop is set to "High Performance" mode in Power Settings to ensure optimal GPU performance.
    • Check NVIDIA control panel settings to ensure programs are set to use the dedicated GPU.
  8. System Restore/Recovery:

    • As a last resort, consider restoring your system to a previous state using System Restore, if the issue started following recent updates or changes.
