Hello,
While playing game, somehow the game crashed due to whatever reason and now even after reboot, launching game always ends up into screen freeze. During this screen freeze, only the game audio is audible from speaker.
It is noticed that, when launching a game there is a device connection sound and within a second there is a device disconnection sound and then followed by screen freeze. Pressing "ctrl + shift + windows + b" button to reset graphics driver is also not useful :(. Only way to make screen unfreeze is to do hard shutdown.
Now this laptop is no more playable :(. Reinstalling Nvidia graphics driver is also not useful.
Tried switching graphics using omen gaming hub and screen freeze problem as explained above is observed.
Is this laptop model has hardware issues with Advanced optimus ? Do I need to turn ON discrete graphics mode only in BIOS settings ?
HP team please fix this issue as soon as possible. [Windows 11 including optional, Microsoft store, hp support assistant, nvidia driver - all are up-to-date]

Hello,
After lots of investigation, found the cause for the graphics switcher issue.
Root cause : Omen gaming hub and nvidia App are conflicting each other.
Nvidia driver from hp website has older version of Nvidia App included. With this, graphics switcher works fine but once Nvidia app updates itself to the latest version then graphics switcher problem starts.
Temporary solution: Uninstall only the Nvidia app and Nvidia frameviewsdk. Now Graphics switcher works. Hope it helps others who are facing Graphics switcher problems.
Permanent solution: HP team should discuss with Nvidia team and ensure in the next upcoming updates should solve conflicting problems between omen gaming hub and nvidia app.
I strongly recommend to HP team should analyze reported issues properly before providing suggestion steps which will reduce unnecessary time spending with it from consumer point of view.
Update: Upon further investigation, best reliable solution for now is,
Preparation:
1. Download latest intel graphics driver from intel website.
2. Download latest nvidia driver from nvidia website.
Steps:
1. Uninstall Omen gaming hub
2. Uninstall all nvidia(including nvidia app,physx,..) and intel related display driver from control panel
3. Disconnect internet.
4. Goto device manager and uninstall both intel and nvidia drivers. Ensure delete option is selected in the uninstall option.
5. Do the above step until you see the display drivers for both became “Microsoft display adapter…”
6. Restart laptop
7. Install downloaded intel graphics driver. Select customize option and choose graphics driver, intel graphics software and intel driver assistant, also select clean install option.
8. Next Install/update all the drivers from intel driver assistant if available.
9. Install Nvidia driver and select both graphics driver and nvidia app. Ensure to select clean install option.
10. Restart laptop
11. Install omen gaming hub and omen gaming hub sdk.
12. Right click on the desktop then choose display settings->Advanced display and choose a higher refresh rate.
13. Open intel graphics software, select “Display” option and do the settings as mentioned below,
a. Disable “variable refresh rate”.
b. Disable “panel self refresh”
14. Restart the laptop and enjoy playing without any screen freeze and no more black screen issue while switching graphics between igpu and dgpu.

Hi @Omen_max_user,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
I Understand your concern about Graphic switching issue, don’t worry let me help you with this.
To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?
- The exact HP Omen model number (usually found on the bottom of the laptop or in HP Support Assistant).
- The version of the NVIDIA driver you installed (Game Ready or Studio driver).
- Whether the freeze happens with all games or just one specific title.
- If you notice the same issue when running GPU-intensive apps outside of gaming
In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
- BIOS Settings: Enter BIOS and set graphics mode to Discrete GPU only to bypass Advanced Optimus temporarily. This helps confirm if the issue is linked to GPU switching.
- Clean Driver Installation: Use the NVIDIA “Clean Install” option or a tool like DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to fully remove old drivers before reinstalling.
- Windows Graphics Settings: Go to Settings → System → Display → Graphics and manually assign your game to run on the NVIDIA GPU instead of “Let Windows decide.”
- Disable Fast Startup: In Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do, disable Fast Startup. Sometimes this prevents proper GPU initialization after reboot.
- HP Omen Gaming Hub Reset: Uninstall and reinstall Omen Gaming Hub to ensure its GPU switching service isn’t corrupted.
- Event Viewer Logs: Check Windows Event Viewer → System/Application logs around the time of the freeze. This can reveal if the crash is driver-related or hardware-triggered.
If the issue persists even in discrete-only mode, it may point to a driver or hardware-level conflict.
I hope this helps.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply and suggestion steps.
Issue is with all the games/GPU intensive games.
Disabling power option is not useful here. Also clean install of nvidia driver is also not useful.
Tried selecting "Discrete only" mode in BIOS and now the games are running.
Laptop model: HP omen max 16-ah0393ng (intel Ultra 9 + rtx 5080)
Nvidia driver version: 595.79(Game Ready driver)
Event viewer->windows logs->Application shows the issue: "Product: HP Display Control Service -- The device is not a supported system. Aborting installation."
Above event viewer is a clear evident that its a HP software issue which is related to display handling part. Because game is audible in speaker and only the screen is frozen completely. Only way to recover is to do hard shutdown.
Now this laptop is not usable with Nvidia optimus option.
Please fix the issue with highest priority !!

Hi @Omen_max_user,
Thanks for your response and Thank you for sharing such a detailed description of the issue you’re facing with your HP Omen Max 16. I completely understand how frustrating it must be to have your system freeze during GPU‑intensive tasks, especially when you’ve already tried multiple troubleshooting steps like driver reinstalls and BIOS adjustments.
-
From what you’ve described, the error message in Event Viewer and the behavior with Optimus mode strongly suggest that this may be related to HP’s display control software or hardware integration, rather than just the NVIDIA driver. The best next step is to have the device inspected by HP’s authorized service team. They’ll be able to run diagnostics, verify the display control service, and apply any firmware or hardware fixes that may be required.
I recommend reaching out to your nearest HP service center at the earliest convenience so they can prioritize your case and ensure your system is restored to full functionality.
To ensure your device receives the appropriate care, we recommend visiting an authorized HP service center. Our certified technicians can provide a thorough diagnosis and offer the best solutions to address the issue.
